Tyree draws 2007 Parallels

David Tyree has been enjoying a little "suite living" recently.

Referring to where he'll be watching Sunday's playoff game in MetLife Stadium, the protagonist of The Catch took time from raising his sixth child and dropped by the Giants' training facility on Friday.

It didn't take long for the 2007 team to be brought up.

"Honestly, there were just so many points to this season, some moments that make you say 'hmm,'" Tyree told a group of reporters in the locker room. "Even the similarities of the Patriot game between our Patriot game in '07 in the Super Bowl, the Jake Ballard catch, I believe the score when they played Green Bay was the same score that they lost to New England. So it's is a lot of cool little markers that you can look at that kind of get you wondering and excited. But more importantly, the New York Giants are playing their best football going into the playoffs."

The 38-35 loss to New England in 2007 was in fact the same score as this season's loss to then-undefeated Green Bay, which was the only game Tyree caught this season in person.

As quickly as he was asked about Super Bowl comparisons, the Victor Cruz inquiries were next in line.

"I've gotten a lot of questions on that myself," Tyree said. "I got a lot of questions trying to draw parallels, and if anything, I say he's like me on steroids. Obviously, you've got the Jersey native not known at all prior to the season. I said this – and I think I was talking with Amani Toomer just randomly – I don't think I've ever seen a season like this before for a receiver in NFL history just from the anonymous detail of his life."

Tyree said he would meet up with Cruz after the locker room session, but had no plans on addressing the team.

"I think they're focused," Tyree said. "That's right where they need to be. I don't want to be a distraction. I think you hear coach Coughlin talk about that. I don't want to be a distraction. I think there's enough excitement going on as far as what they're accomplishing for themselves and where they're trying to go."
