AT A GLANCE
Six takeaways, three Tommy DeVito touchdown passes, and two Saquon Barkley hands added up to a 31-19 road victory for the New York Giants over the Washington Commanders in Week 11. In the process, the Giants bookended a three-game losing streak with a season sweep of the Commanders and improved to 3-8. Washington, meanwhile, fell to 4-7.
UP NEXT
After three consecutive games on the road, the Giants return home to host the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Giants will then go on their bye week and come back to a Monday night game against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium.
WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE OFFENSE
Starting right tackle Evan Neal missed his second consecutive game with an ankle injury. He had previously missed home games against Washington and the Jets with another ankle issue. Tyre Phillips again started in his place.
From left to right, the starting offensive line combination on Sunday was Andrew Thomas, Justin Pugh, John Michael Schmitz, Ben Bredeson, and Tyre Phillips. It was the first time this season the Giants started the same offensive line in consecutive weeks.
Thomas was listed as questionable heading into Sunday with a knee injury suffered last week in Dallas. He was limited in practice. Thomas returned to the field two weeks ago after missing seven games with a hamstring injury.
Last week, Tommy DeVito became the first rookie free agent quarterback to start a non-strike game for the Giants in the common draft era (since 1967). His first snap occurred with his feet in the Giants' end zone in Dallas, leading to two consecutive three-and-outs and a scoreless first half. This week was different. DeVito completed 14 of 19 passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns, and a 140.0 passer rating in the first half despite being sacked six times.
Overall, DeVito completed 18 of 26 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. His 137.7 passer rating was the highest by a Giants quarterback this season (Tyrod Taylor had a 116.9 rating in the first matchup with Washington).
Saquon Barkley made two early catches that would be impressive for a wide receiver, let alone a running back. The first was a leaping 21-yard gain and the second was on a wheel route for a 24-yard touchdown on the right side of the end zone. Barkley got both feet in bounds before taking a big hit.
Barkley's first six runs netted a loss of two yards while the Giants had zero rushing yards on eight attempts in the first half. He eventually broke though with a 36-yard carry on the final play of the third quarter, sparking a drive that ended with a five-yard touchdown catch from …. Barkley again. It gave the Giants a 21-12 lead with 13:32 left in the fourth quarter.
Barkley's final stat line included 14 carries for 83 yards and four receptions for 57 yards, including two touchdown catches. Barkley has more career rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, scrimmage yards, and scrimmage touchdowns against Washington than any other opponent.
The Giants allowed nine sacks, two fewer than their season-high 11 given up to Seattle. The Giants have given up multiple sacks in every game this season and at least five in six separate outings.
The Giants had halftime deficits of 24-0 in Week 9 in Las Vegas and 28-0 last week in Dallas. On Sunday, they led 14-9 in Washington.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton, who had four catches for 82 yards and a touchdown, took a hard hit late in the first half. The team said he injured his arm and ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
Rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, the team's third-round draft choice, cleared the concussion protocol on Friday.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DEFENSE
On Washington's first possession, versatile defensive back Nick McCloud intercepted Sam Howell, who was the league leader in completions, attempts, and passing yards entering Week 11. It was McCloud's first career interception in three NFL seasons (two with the Giants).
On Washington's second possession, cornerback Cor'Dale Flott punched the ball out of Logan Thomas' hands while the tight end was being tackled by Micah McFadden. Safety Xavier McKinney recovered the fumble near midfield.
On Washington's third possession, the Giants made a goal-line stand to force Washington into a 23-yard field goal.
In addition to leading the league in passing, Howell had also been sacked the most times (47) heading into Sunday. Dexter Lawrence accounted for two of the defense's six sacks in their Week 7 meeting, and the Pro Bowl defensive lineman got to him again on Sunday.
Outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, who cleared the concussion protocol on Friday, registered two sacks and now has 10.5 through 11 games of his second NFL season.
Outside linebacker Jihad Ward also had a sack as the defense recorded four on the day.
With the Commanders driving and looking to take the lead late in the third quarter, linebacker Bobby Okereke forced running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. to fumble. McFadden recovered the ball at the New York 32.
The Giants weren't done. They forced a fifth takeaway on cornerback Darnay Holmes' interception in the fourth quarter. A sixth came when Isaiah Simmons sealed the game with a 54-yard interception returned for a touchdown with 16 seconds left in a five-point game.
Giants cornerback Cor'Dale Flott and Commanders wide receiver Curtis Samual were ejected following Howell's touchdown run late in the first half.
Cornerback Adoree' Jackson, on the other hand, missed his second consecutive game with a concussion.
WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS
Kicker Randy Bullock was activated from the practice squad (standard elevation) for the third week, the league limit before they need to make a roster decision on him. Cade York, another kicker, was again inactive.
Bullock made his lone field goal attempt from 36 yards to give the Giants a 12-point lead with 6:48 left in the game.
Special teams got in on the takeaway spree. McCloud and safety Dane Belton hit Byron Pringle on the opening kickoff of the second half. The ball came loose, and rookie safety Gervarrius Owens recovered at the Washington 34.
