Keep an eye on these six players in the Giants' preseason finale Thursday
LB J.T. THOMASLast week, Thomas saw his first game action since last Sept. 11, when he tore his ACL in the season opener in Dallas. He's fighting for a spot on the team with some moving pieces at the position.
DT DALVIN TOMLINSONThe question was never if the Alabama product could become a starter; it was a matter of when. That process may have sped up with a knee injury to Jay Bromley.
DE AVERY MOSSCoach Ben McAdoo talked to the fifth-round draft pick the other day about "just letting it rip." The rookie responded and grabbed an interception in practice.
CB DONTE DEAYONComing off his 36-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Jets, Deayon followed up with a pair of strong practices. He deflected a pass that was intercepted by a teammate on Monday and grabbed another pick of his own on Tuesday.
KICKERS ALDRICK ROSAS AND MIKE NUGENT The Giants have a heck of a kicking competition going on in the preseason. Veteran Mike Nugent is 5-for-5, including successful attempts from 54 and 50 yards last week against the Jets. Aldrick Rosas, meanwhile, is 4-for-4 with a long of 52 yards.
FOXBOROUGH - Only one player expected to start the season opener in Dallas on Sept. 10 started Thursday night's preseason finale in New England: free safety Darian Thompson.
The offensive starters were quarterback Geno Smith, running back Orleans Darkwa, fullback Shane Smith, wide receivers Roger Lewis, Jr. and Travis Rudolph, and tight end Will Tye (who started 11 games in 2016). The offensive line, from left to right tackle, was Chad Wheeler, Jon Halapio, Brett Jones, D.J. Fluker and Adam Bisnowaty. Fluker started 61 regular-season and postseason games for San Diego the previous four seasons.
The starters on defense included ends Kerry Wynn and Devin Taylor (18 career starts), and tackles Robert Thomas and Josh Banks. Romero Okwara, normally a defensive end, was the strongside linebacker with Calvin Munson in the middle and J.T. Thomas on the weak side. Donte Deayon and Nigel Tribune were the corners and Thompson and Andrew Adams (13 starts last season) started at safety.
