OVERVIEW
Prior to Doug Marrone's arrival as the Orange's head coach in 2009, Syracuse had won just nine of their previous 36 games during the 2006-08 campaigns. The team needed a total overhaul, as the new coach was trying to return his alma mater to its previous glory.
Syracuse compiled a 4-8 record with Nassib sitting on the bench during the 2009 season. After wresting the starting job as a sophomore, the quarterback guided the team to its first winning season since the 2001 campaign, as the Orange compiled an 8-5 record for the 2010 schedule. In three years as a starter, the signal caller would go on to win 21 games.
Taking over a young offensive unit that had ranked 94th among 120 major college teams with an average of 330.42 yards per game in 2009, Nassib would close out his career guiding a unit that ranked 17th nationally and paced the Big East Conference with an average of 476.00 yards per game in 2012. From 182.69 aerial yards peer game during his first starting season, the quarterback paced the offense that averaged 289.00 yards passing during his senior season.
As his Syracuse career progressed, Nassib not only continued to climb up the school's career-record charts, but also showed steady improvement each season. In 2010, his 2,334 yards passing placed sixth and his 202 completions of 358 passes ranked third on the Orange annual record chart. He would rank second on the season record list with 259-of-415 attempts for 2,685 yards and 22 touchdowns during his junior campaign.
Nassib would go on to establish new school records during his final season, topping those charts with 294-of-471 tosses for 3,749 yards and 26 scores in 2012. His pass attempts, aerial yards, total plays (555) and 3,891 yards in total offense are all ranked third on the Big East Conference annual record charts.
Nassib would not only rank tenth among active NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision players with his 791 pass completions and place eleventh with 1,312 pass attempts, but also set new school and conference career-records in both categories. His 70 touchdown passes, eighth-best among active players, rank third in Big East annals, while his 9,190 yards passing is the fourth-best in conference history and marked the first time a Syracuse player threw for over 8,500 yards in a career.
While impressive on the field, Nassib has also excelled in the classroom. The three-time ESPN Academic All-District Team selection has been a member of the Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester and a four-time Big East Conference All-Academic Team choice. He earned his undergraduate degree in finance from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management during the 2011-12 semester and is currently pursuing a master's degree in accounting.
Nassib comes from a football-themed family. His father, Gil, played football at the University of Delaware. His cousin, Joe Nassib, plays cornerback on the Syracuse football team, and Ryan's younger brother, Carl, is a defensive end for Penn State.
Nassib attended Malvern Prep, where he would go on to earn Super Prep All-Northeast honors in 2007. As a junior, he generated 1,400 aerial yards with seventeen touchdowns. The following season, the Prep Star All-East Region choice completed 80 passes for 1,237 yards and was named to the All-City and All-League teams. Rivals.com rated him the 34th-best overall prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.
Nassib red-shirted during his first season at Syracuse, going on to earn his first varsity letter in 2009. With Doug Marrone installed as the Orange's new head coach, the second-year freshman appeared in ten games as a reserve, gaining 422 yards with three touch-downs behind 36-of-68 passes.
He emerged from 2010 spring drills as the victor from a heated battle vs. Cameron Dantley and Andrew Robinson for the top spot at the quarterback position. Nassib would go on to hit on 202-of-358 attempts for 2,334 yards, nineteen touchdowns and eight interceptions, as the team compiled an 8-5 record.
The coaching staff expanded the passing game in 2011, but the team struggled to a 5-7 finish, even though Nassib put up impressive numbers. His 415 pass attempts rank sixth on the Big East season-record list, connecting on 259 of those tries (62.41%) for 2,685 yards and 22 touchdowns, as those figures all rank second on the school annual record list.
Nassib received All-Big East Conference first-team honors during his final campaign. He rewrote the school season records with 3,749 yards and 26 touchdowns on 294-of-471 attempts, leading the league while finishing 18th in the nation with an average of 299.31 yards per game in total offense. The Orange not only placed 17th in the FBS with an average of 476.0 yards per game, their aerial attack ranked 29th, averaging a school season-record 289.00 yards per game (previous mark was 241.3 yards by the 1989 team).

Nassib appeared in 48 games at Syracuse, starting his final 38 contests…Completed 791-of-1,312 passes (60.29%) for 9,190 yards, 70 touchdowns and 28 interceptions…Scored six more times on 242 carries for 168 yards (0.69 ypc) and caught one pass for a 4-yard loss…
Participated in 1,554 offensive plays for a total of 9,358 yards and was responsible for 76 touchdowns, the fifth-best total in Big East Conference history…His 791 completed passes and 1,312 attempts are both school and league all-time records, surpassing the previous marks of 735 completions of 1,217 tosses by Ryan Hart of Rutgers (2002-05) for Big East honors and 563-of-943 passes by the Orange's Marvin Graves (1990-93)…Nassib is the only passer in school history to throw for over 8,500 yards in a career, topping the old record of 8,446 yards by Graves, as his total of 9,190 yards placed fourth on the Big East charts behind Brian Brohm of Louisville (9,956; 2005-07), Ken Dorsey of Miami (9,565; 1999-2002) and Mike Teel of Rutgers (9,383; 2005-08)…His 70 touchdown passes rank third in Big East history and second in school annals, surpassed by Dorsey (86) and Syracuse's Donovan McNabb (77; 1995-98)…His 1,554 offensive plays set the school record and are topped by only South Florida's Matt Grothe (1,693; 2006-09) on the conference career chart…His 9,358 yards in total offense is second on the Orange all-time list behind McNabb (9,950) and marked just the seventh time in Big East history a player amassed more than 9,000 yards in a career…Nassib threw for over 300 yards seven times during his career, including six during his final campaign…Nassib finished with a pass completion percentage of .6029, joining Greg Paulus (.677 in 2009) as the only Orange players to complete at least 60% of their attempts in a career.

The Academic All-Big East Conference selection was one of eleven Syracuse players to start every game, as the junior ranked third in the league with an average of 227.00 yards per game in total offense…He set school season-records that he would eventually break during his senior campaign, completing 259-of-415 passes (sixth-best attempts total in a season by a Big East player) for 2,685 yards, 22 touchdowns and just nine interceptions, scoring twice on 65 carries for 39 yards while turning 480 touches into 2,724 yards in total offense…Even though he would re-establish those marks in 2012, his 259 completions surpassed the old Orange record of 202 that Nassib set in 2010…His 415 attempts also bettered his former record of 358 from the 2010 campaign, while his 22 scoring strikes tied Don McPherson (1987) and Donovan McNabb (1998) for the Orange annual mark…His passing yardage total also topped the old record of 2,547 yards by Marvin Graves in 1993…His first 300-yard passing performance for the Orange came in a 21-14 defeat of Rhode Island, as he hit on 29-of-37 throws for 318 yards and three touchdowns, as he followed a season opener vs. Wake Forest that also produced three scoring strikes and 178 yards on 20-of-28 chances vs. the Demon Deacons…Threw for a season-best four touchdowns (tied for second on the school game-record chart) and 229 yards while hitting on 24-of-32 chances vs. West Virginia, adding another score on a rushing attempt vs. the Mountaineers.

Nassib appeared in ten games, backing up Duke basketball transfer, Greg Paulus, at quarterback…Did not play in the season opener vs. Minnesota and sat out the South Florida clash, as he finished with 36-of-68 passes (52.94%) for 422 yards, three touch-downs and one interception…Also ran for a score and gained 26 yards on 27 carries…
Made his debut vs. Penn State, hitting on 4-of-5 tries for 30 yards…Threw his first two touchdowns while picking up 120 yards on 7-of-16 tosses vs. West Virginia…Added another score on 7-of-9 throws for 64 yards vs. Connecticut in the season finale.
