Safety Antrel Rolle was today named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, an award that completes an impressive trifecta for the Giants.

In the season's first six weeks, the Giants have had an Offensive Player of the Week (Hakeem Nicks in Week 2, after his 199-yard performance vs. Tampa Bay), a Special Teams Player of the Week (Lawrence Tynes in Week 3, after he kicked five field goals at Carolina) and now Rolle has won the defensive award.

Rolle was a dominant figure in the Giants' 26-3 rout of the San Francisco 49ers in Candlestick Park. He intercepted two Alex Smith passes in the third quarter, returning the first to the 49ers' 12-yard line and the second to the five-yard line. Both takeaways led to Giants field goals. Rolle also tied Prince Amukamara and Michael Boley for the team lead with six unassisted tackles, including one of quarterback Colin Kaepernick for a one-yard loss on the final play of the third quarter.

Rolle is the first Giants player to win the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award since Jason Pierre-Paul was honored in Weeks 14 and 16 of the 2011 season. He is the first Giants defensive back cited since Aaron Ross in Week 8 of the 2008 season and the first safety since Percy Ellsworth in Week 16 of the 1998 season.

This is Rolle's fourth Player of the Week award. He was honored three times during his five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals: (Weeks 11 and 17, 2007 and Week 9, 2008).
