2025 Spring Practices

Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston introduce themselves on first day

Brian Daboll asked two players who need no introduction to introduce themselves to the offense today.

Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston obliged and stood in front of their new teammates for the first time.

"I think that's important for the quarterback position," the head coach said. "Again, Russell has been doing this for a long time, as has Jameis. Both of those guys, I asked them to get up this morning in front of the offense and talk a little bit about their story, kind of where they came from and who is important to them in their life and what's important to them in this game, and they both did a great job. It's really early in the process, but they understand what leadership is. They've done it in a number of places; I expect them to do that here."

The Giants reported to the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Monday for the start of the offseason workout program. The next nine weeks will evolve from strength and conditioning to installation and ultimately practices. What they do in the spring will set the stage for training camp and thus the season.

"Dabs ran a great meeting today," said Wilson, who had already gotten in some extra work with his tight ends and receivers while training in San Diego and Atlanta. "He introduced everybody, from the coaches to everybody else, from the new players as well, obviously with me being one of them. Just to be able to go up there and talk to the guys about kind of where I come from and just my story a little bit and just the focus of it all and what we want to accomplish individually, but also this year.

"I'm excited to be with these guys. I'm excited to have the opportunity to play and be a New York Giant. What an opportunity it is. We can make it really special."

While many of the players on offense are already familiar with each other, they are not with the most important position in the sport – at least, on a personal basis. Most have been watching Wilson and Winston on TV for years.

"I'm super excited to work with him," said second-year tight end Theo Johnson, who was just about to turn 13 when Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII. "You know, the little bit that we've worked together, I think he's going to be not only great for our offense, but for our team. … From the very first interaction with him, you could tell the guy knows a lot of ball, and the biggest takeaway for me was just his passion. He loves football and every aspect of the game, which is infectious and something that he's going to infect in our locker room just his love and his passion for the game."

The quarterbacks aren't the only new faces. The Giants kicked off free agency with the signings of cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevón Holland, who forced three fumbles in a game against Wilson's Broncos in 2023.

The two joked about that in the locker room this morning.

"He's a talented guy, Holland," Wilson said. "I think he's made a lot of plays. We're excited to have him on the team."

Holland's mother is a "big Seahawks fan" and his father spent time with the 49ers, so the Bay area native knows all about Wilson. And his new backfield partner knows a lot about Holland.

"It's funny, I've actually been watching Jevón for a while, since I was in college," second-year safety Tyler Nubin said, "because I feel like me and him, we kind of have similar play styles, similar body types. He's a longer, bigger guy. I've always been a fan of his game. So, I was excited to hear that he was going to being part of our team, for sure."

The coaches feel the same way.

"It's always better when the players are in the building," Daboll said.

Players are back as spring workouts begin at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
