RB Brown on IR/Return; DE Ojomo signed

**

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –** The Giants today began their work week for Sunday night's season-opener in Dallas by making three personnel moves.

They placed running back Andre Brown on the injured reserve/designated to return list, signed defensive end Adewale Ojomo to their 53-man roster off their practice squad and filled the resulting vacancy on their practice squad by signing offensive lineman Steven Baker.

Brown suffered a small crack in a bone in his left leg in the preseason finale last week in New England. It was the same leg he fractured last season.

Brown is eligible to begin practicing six weeks from today and eligible to play in a game eight weeks from today. Since the Giants' bye follows their eighth game, Brown will first be eligible to suit up on Nov. 10 at home against the Oakland Raiders.

But that timetable doesn't guarantee he will play. A player on the IR/designated to return list is treated similarly to one on the physically unable to perform list. Beginning six weeks from today (Oct. 15), the Giants can put Brown on the practice field, commencing a 21-day period in which they can decide to activate him or, if he is not healthy enough to play, choose to keep him on IR for the rest of the season. He can be activated at any time during those 21 days. The Giants can begin the 21-day period at any time beginning Oct. 15.

NFL teams can use IR/ designated to return on just one player each season. It was instituted last year, when the Giants used it on Brown, who first broke his left leg vs. Green Bay on Nov. 25. But the Giants did not extend their season long enough for Brown to return to action.

Ojomo was on the Giants' roster for the entire 2012 season. He played in one game (vs. Cleveland on Oct. 7) and was inactive for the other 15 games. Ojomo was waived on Saturday and signed to the practice squad the following day.

Baker, 6-8 and 340 pounds, spent the entire 2012 season on the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. The East Carolina product entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts on May 14, 2012. Baker was waived by the Colts on Sept. 1, 2012 and signed to the Cardinals' practice squad two days later. This year, he was in the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp before being waived on Saturday.

*Tom Coughlin said this morning that both Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul will practice today, as the Giants begin full-scale preparations for Sunday's game.

Asked if they would be limited, Coughlin said, "There will be some ability to withhold, perhaps, from the full practice but they are full speed ahead."

Pierre-Paul did not play in a preseason game because of his June back surgery. Coughlin said he will have a sense of what to expect from his two-time Pro Bowl defensive end at the end of the week.

Cruz bruised his heel in Week 2 of the preseason against Indianapolis and has not played since. Monday was his first day back on the practice field.

*Also on the Giants' initial injury report are center David Baas (knee), tackle David Diehl (thumb), cornerback Jayron Hosley (ankle), fullback Henry Hynoski (knee), tight end Adrien Robinson (foot) and defensive end Damontre Moore (shoulder).
