*Martin has played in 47 games with four starts, the most recent in 2009 for the Packers. He has three career interceptions, including one last year, when he played only five games before going on injured reserve with ankle and knee problems.

"He worked out very well for us," Coughlin said. "He was actually playing pretty well before he got hurt last year. He has special teams credentials, which is something we're constantly looking at."

Martin entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft choice by Baltimore in 2006 out of Wyoming.

*Coughlin had encouraging words for rookie receiver/returner Jerrel Jernigan.

"I thought he practiced better," Coughlin said. "I thought he had a little more confidence and knew a little bit more about what he was trying to accomplish. I think we just have to continue to bring that out of him."

*Lawrence Tynes' bruised quad continues to feel better, but he's not ready to kick..

"I don't think it's going to be any 'wow, all of the sudden the next day I feel a whole lot better' kind of thing," Coughlin said. "It's going to take some time."

*The following players did not practice today: linebackers Michael Boley (back) and Clint Sintim (knee), quarterback Sage Rosenfels (illness), Tynes (quad), defensive backs Woodny Turenne (calf) and Jerrard Tarrant (shoulder) and wide receiver Domenik Hixon (scheduled day off).

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (back tightness) and wide receiver Darius Reynaud (hamstring) did not complete the workout.
