ONE "COOL" GIANTS FAN
BY MATT COHEN
James Todd Smith is a lifelong Giants fan.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, it's probably because for the last three decades he's been known better as LL Cool J.
The two-time Grammy Award winner and Hollywood actor is a native New Yorker. Born in Bay Shore, LL grew up in Queens, and it's where he launched his hip-hop career in the mid-'80s.
But how did LL become such a passionate Giants fan? He explained in a recent post for the NFL's "Why I Am a Fan" series.
"I remember early in my music career, around 1986, Lawrence Taylor was just the most dominant thing on the field and just crushing everything in his path," he said.
The star of current TV hits "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Lip Sync Battle" almost went in a different direction, however.
"To be honest, before L.T., as a little kid I was kind of on the fence with the Dallas Cowboys and all that," LL admitted. "Lawrence Taylor took it home for me."
LL once came close to a career on the gridiron - in Hollywood terms that is. He starred in the 1999 football drama Any Given Sunday, along with Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.
