Malik Nabers nominated for Rookie of the Week (again)

MALIK-NABERS-PEPSI

Four weeks. Four nominations.

Coming as no surprise, wide receiver Malik Nabers has once again been nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week after he led the Giants with 12 receptions for 115 yards on 15 targets against the Cowboys.

On Thursday night, Nabers became just the third rookie with 10+ receptions and 100+ receiving yards in a primetime game since 1970, joining Odell Beckham Jr. (2014 vs. DAL) and Jerry Rice (1985 vs. LAR). He also became just the ninth rookie with 10+ receptions in a primetime game since 1970, with three of the nine players being Giants (Beckham and Saquon Barkley).

Nabers suffered a concussion late in the game and is currently in the concussion protocol ahead of this week's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 21-year-old LSU product leads the NFL with 35 receptions, five more than any other player, while his 386 receiving yards rank second.

He is the first player in the Super Bowl era with at least 30 receptions, 300 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns in his first four career games.

His 35 receptions through four games are the second-most in NFL history (Puka Nacua had 39 in 2023). The other two players with 30+ receptions in their first four games each went on to break the single-season rookie record (Nacua, Anquan Boldin in 2003).

Nabers also has at least five receptions in each of his first four games, tied for the fourth-longest streak to start a career since at least 1970. The three players with the longest streaks to start their careers are CeeDee Lamb (six games in 2020), Nacua (five games in 2023), and Terry Glenn (five games in 1996).

Thursday's game against the Cowboys also represented the third time in Giants history that two players had 10+ receptions in the same game, the other being Wan'Dale Robinson. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks accomplished this in 2012, while Mario Manningham and Steve Smith did it in 2009.

"Those are two of our really good players," coach Brian Daboll said after the game about Nabers and Robinson. "And I think that's what you try to do. When you're devising games is to try to get your best guys involved."

The other players nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week include:

  • Commanders QB Jayden Daniels - Completed 26 of 30 pass attempts (86.7 percent) for 233 yards and one touchdown; also rushed for 47 yards and an additional touchdown
  • Bears QB Caleb Williams - Completed 17 of 23 pass attempts (73.9 percent) for 157 yards and one touchdown for a 106.6 passer rating
  • Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. - Registered 99 scrimmage yards (86 receiving, 13 rushing), six receptions and a touchdown
  • Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy - Caught three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown
  • Panthers WR Xavier Legette - Recorded 76 scrimmage yards (66 receiving, 10 rushing), six receptions and a touchdown
