Malik Nabers nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week

MALIK-NABERS-PEPSI

For the second consecutive week and 10th time this season, the Giants have a player nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers earned his fifth nomination for the weekly award after he caught 10 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.

This came one week after running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. picked up his fifth nomination of the season.

This was the third double-digit catch game of the season for Nabers and his first since Week 4. It also marked the first time the rookie wideout found the end zone since Week 3.

With three games remaining, the 21-year-old is tied with Raiders tight end Brock Bowers for the rookie lead in receptions with 90 (and in two fewer games). Meanwhile, Nabers' 901 receiving yards rank third among rookies.

Nabers' 90 receptions represent the second-highest total by an NFL player in his first 12 career games, and is only one behind Odell Beckham Jr.'s record of 91 receptions set in 2014.

The No. 6 overall pick needs just two total receptions in the final three games to set a new franchise rookie record, which is currently held jointly by Beckham and Saquon Barkley (2018).

Nabers also finds himself just 15 receptions behind Puka Nacua for the all-time NFL rookie record of 105 receptions, set last season. He could become the fourth rookie receiver in history with 100+ catches, joining Nacua, Jaylen Waddle (104 catches with Miami in 2021) and Anquan Boldin (101 with Arizona in 2003).

With 901 receiving yards on the season, Nabers moved past tight end Jeremy Shockey (894 yards in 2002) into second place on the Giants' rookie list.

The other players nominated for the Week 15 Pepsi Rookie of the Week include:

  • Commanders QB Jayden Daniels - Completed 25 of 31 passes (80.6 percent) for 226 yards and two touchdowns for a 118.5 passer rating; also rushed for 66 yards
  • Patriots QB Drake Maye - Completed 19 of 23 passes (82.6 percent) for 202 yards and one touchdown for a 99.6 passer rating; also rushed for a touchdown
  • Panthers WR Jalen Coker - Caught four passes for 110 yards and a touchdown
  • Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. - Caught 10 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns
  • Packers LB Edgerrin Cooper - Registered five tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, two passes defensed, and one interception
