Make the Case: WR DeVante Parker vs. CB Trae Waynes

"We have to draft this player because he can do A,B, C."

"No, we should select that prospect because he can do X,Y,Z."

These are the debates that will be waged in front offices across the National Football League in the coming weeks,

up until the first day of the 2015 NFL Draft on April 30 in Chicago and through its conclusion on May 2.

With our "Make the Case" series on Giants.com, we look at projections provided by two draft experts and then ask you, the fans, to weigh in on which player you would like the Giants to select with the ninth pick in the first round.

In this debate, we feature two playmakers on opposite sides of the ball: Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker and Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes.

The 6-foot-3, 209-pound Parker tied the school record for career touchdown catches with 33, in addition to 10 games with at least 100 yards. Meanwhile, Waynes, 6-3 and 186 pounds, was first-team All-Big Ten in 2014 as well as a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, which is given to the top defensive back.

In his latest mock draft, SI.com's Chris Burke projected the Giants to use their first pick on a wide receiver for the second-straight season, while NFLDraftScout.com analyst Dane Brugler had them taking the cornerback.

"GM Jerry Reese was asked at the combine if taking a receiver in last year's first round made it less likely the Giants would do so in 2015. His response: 'Best player available. Best player available. We'll take the best player on the board.' In this mock, that player is Parker. Nabbing him also helps keep the staff from rushing back Victor Cruz."

"The Giants have a chance to draft the top offensive lineman in this class, but if Waynes is still on the board, they'll have a shot at the top cornerback as well."
