LB Blackburn fits the middle vs. Packers

As many days as Chase Blackburn had to prepare for Sunday's game, Aaron Rodgers had thrown the same amount of interceptions all season heading into MetLife Stadium.

Four.

Welcomed back on Wednesday, the linebacker picked off a pass intended for Greg Jennings midway through the second quarter and dealt the reigning Super Bowl MVP his fifth interception of the year. The 28-year-old Blackburn, who has played more than 90 games with the Giants and captained the special teams last season, finished with seven tackles and broke up two passes in the 38-35 loss to the Packers.

"I just told them when I got signed, whatever you ask me to do, I'm going to do," Blackburn said. "I was running pretty well on my own, but it's definitely different from whatever you can do on your own to come out here and perform in a whole game. Conditioning-wise, it's a lot different. I'm sure to be sore tomorrow, but we'll figure that out tomorrow."

Watching last week's overwhelming loss to New Orleans from his couch, Blackburn had no problem with being immediately thrown in against the No. 1 offense in the NFL.

"That's the best," he said. "Why wouldn't you? Why would you want it any other way? To be the best, you've got to beat the best, and these guys are the best."

And Blackburn didn't miss a beat. The way he rotated in, made calls, directed people around was as if he never left.

"That's why I feel like they brought me in because I've been able to do that in the past and I know the defense and the system and kind of what they expect from me," Blackburn said. "So I was able to step into that role."

Blackburn, who led the Giants in special teams tackles each of his six seasons with the team, notched two more on Sunday but said he left a few out there."That's one of the things that I'm
most mad about," Blackburn said. "Not being able to hit for so long and not doing it, I missed a couple tackles. I know I missed at least two. So it was one of those things that just not having that practice for so long, you get a little rusty. But fortunately for me, we have some weeks left to build off of it and go from here."
