Together, the two in-season acquisitions propelled the NFL's worst rushing offense in the right direction. With 106 from Jacobs alone, the Giants racked up 123 yards on the ground after averaging 56.8 in the first five weeks.
However, it would come in a 27-21 losing effort to the Chicago Bears.
"Everybody [was] just working in unison," said Conner, who made his 11th career start. "The offensive line was firing off the ball, me doing my job, and the running backs were running hard. It's just everybody working in unison."
Conner was signed three weeks ago after starting fullback Henry Hynoski was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The former Cincinnati Bengal and New York Jet spent his first two games with the Giants on special teams as he learned the playbook.
Coaches thought Conner was ready by Week 6 against the Bears, and he proved them right by leading the way on both of Jacobs' goal-line touchdowns.
"It felt great just coming out here helping this team the best way I can," Conner said. "Hopefully we can figure it out here soon and get ourselves a win."
Giants leading rusher David Wilson was ruled out of Thursday's game with a neck injury, opening the door for Jacobs. The nine-year NFL vet re-signed with the Giants in Week 2 after spending last season with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jacobs turned in a vintage performance that defined his first stint in New York.
"It helps out my job a lot when you have a powerful back like that running behind you," Conner said.
