Brian Daboll announces returning assistant coaches

COACHES-TOMMY

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Giants coach Brian Daboll today announced the retention of four assistant coaches who have been with the team for at least two seasons.

Jerome Henderson and Mike Treier, the defensive backs and assistant D.B.'s coach, will remain in the positions they held in 2021 under Joe Judge. Anthony Blevins will be the assistant special teams coach, the position he held in 2018-19 and again in 2021. Nick Williams will be the special teams quality control coach, his third different assignment in as many years. He was previously an offensive assistant and the offensive quality control coach.

Henderson and Treier will work under new defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale, while Blevins and Williams will assist Thomas McGaughey, who is entering his fifth season as the special teams coordinator.

Henderson, 52, is preparing for his third season as the Giants' defensive backs coach. The year before he arrived, the defense ranked 26th in the NFL against the pass, allowing 264.1 yards a game. With Henderson coaching the secondary, the Giants were 16th (237.9 yards-per-game) in 2020 and 15th (225.8) this season.

Under Henderson's tutelage, cornerback James Bradberry was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2020 and Logan Ryan successfully transitioned from cornerback to safety. In 2021, second-year pro Xavier McKinney led the team with five interceptions and developed into one of the NFL's best young safeties.

Henderson has coached in the NFL since 2007. Before joining the Giants, he did stints with the Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons.

Treier was also instrumental in the improvement of the defensive backs listed above, as well as with Julian Love, Adoree' Jackson, Jabrill Peppers and Aaron Robinson.

In 2020, Treier joined the coaching staff as a defensive quality control coach. He was promoted to his current position prior to the 2021 season. Before joining the Giants, Treier coached for seven years at Marshall University (six seasons) and the University of Tennessee at Martin (one).

McGaughey and Blevins both joined the Giants' staff in 2018, the former as the special teams coordinator and the latter as his assistant. After staying in that role for two years, Blevins preceded Treier as the assistant defensive backs coach under Henderson in 2020. Last year, he was an assistant to both special teams and the linebackers.

Blevins was a coaching assistant/special teams with the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-17.

Williams joined the Giants' coaching staff as an offensive assistant in 2020. Last year, he was elevated to quality control coach.

Prior to joining the Giants, Williams spent three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Southern Illinois University. He also served as the program's liaison with NFL teams.
