WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE OFFENSE: David Wilson can outrun any angle a defender takes, no matter how good it may seem. We saw that on his long run as he finished with 92 yards on five carries. However, the Giants started 0-for-6 on third-down conversions and finished 3-for-16. Wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan had a nifty 20-yard catch from Eli Manning late in the first half to move the Giants into Jets' territory. He led all Giants receivers with 15 targets, hauling in five catches for 66 yards. Eli Manning played the entire first half before Curtis Painter relieved him, completing 8 of 20 passes for 83 yards. Rookie quarterback Ryan Nassib did not make an appearance in the game.WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DEFENSE: It remains very opportunistic when it comes to turnovers. Like most games last season, the Giants won the turnover battle with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Prince Amukamara wrestled the first interception away from Jets wide receiver Ryan Spadola late in the first quarter. Stevie Brown grabbed another off Geno Smith on the next drive, and defensive end Justin Tuck notched the third with a pick near the line of scrimmage. They still need to clean up penalties, though. They had four consecutive flags thrown on the Jets' second offensive series, moving them across midfield and leading to their first touchdown. The run defense held up as the Jets were limited to 18 yards on 12 attempts (1.5 average) with three tackles behind the line of scrimmage in the first half with the starters.WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS: Cornerback Jayron Hosley opened up at punt returner for the Giants, but was upended for a three-yard gain early in the game. Meanwhile, rookie running back Michael Cox nearly had two nice kickoff returns for a 32.5-yard average and a long of 35. Cox provides options for the Giants with Wilson taking on a larger offensive role this year. On a busy night for punters, Steve Weatherford and the cover unit landed five inside the 20, including one inside the 10 and two inside the five-yard line. Josh Brown missed a 53-yard attempt in the first half. It had the distance but fell wide left. He later made a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter. The Giants paid tribute to late punter Dave Jennings during the game with this video.ROOKIE WATCH: First-round draft choice Justin Pugh started at right tackle; RB/KR Michael Cox had a 30-yard kickoff return in the first quarter; CB Charles James had two solo tackles and a kickoff return for 25 yards.
