Inside the Numbers

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - On Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, Eli Manning started his 96th regular season game, the equivalent of six full seasons. He has started those games consecutively, the third-longest active streak among NFL quarterbacks. Manning is 56-40 (.583) in the regular season. Here's how his record and statistics stack up with some other prominent quarterbacks after their 96th start. Thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for providing the statistics.

*Since losing his first six starts as a rookie, Manning is 56-34 (.622).

*Of the quarterbacks on the list, only Favre, Brady, McNabb and Hasselbeck had more victories through 96 games.

*Manning, of course, is often compared to Peyton, his older brother. After 96 games, Eli has two more regular season victories. Peyton's current record is 137-64 (.682). Eli's postseason record is 4-3. Peyton's is 9-9.

*Irony Dept.: Manning's 56-40 record is identical to that of Mark Brunell. Both quarterbacks started their first 96 games for head coach Tom Coughlin, Brunell with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

*Further proof the NFL has become a passing league: Eli Manning has thrown 744 more passes for 508 more completions, 5,898, 65 more touchdowns – and 15 fewer interceptions – than his father Archie did in his first 96 starts from 1971-80.

Now in the second half of his seventh season, Manning is on his way to setting all of the Giants' major career passing records:

*In their last three games, the Giants totaled 497, 487 and 480 yards. According to Elias, this is the first time in their history the Giants have gained at least 480 yards in each of three consecutive games.

*The Cowboys gained 427 yards in their 33-20 victory over the Giants. It was the first Giants game in which each team totaled at least 427 yards since Sept. 9, 2007 in Dallas, when the Giants gained 438 yards and the Cowboys had 478.

*The Giants have finished with at least 24 first downs in each of their last five games, the first time they've done that since Sept. 21- Oct. 26, 2003.

*The Giants have not scored a first possession touchdown in their last 11 games dating back to last season. That is the NFL's second-longest streak behind Buffalo (16).

*The Giants' longest run on Sunday was nine yards (by both Ahmad Bradshaw and Manning). That was their shortest long run in a game since Nov. 20, 2006, when Tiki Barber had the team's long run of nine yards at Jacksonville.

*Bryan McCann's 101-yard interception return for a touchdown was the longest ever against the Giants. The previous standard was 99 yards, set twice: Philadelphia's Jerry Norton on Oct. 5, 1957 and San Diego's Shaun Gayle on Dec. 23, 1995.

*Manning's 19 touchdown passes tie him with San Diego's Philip Rivers for the NFL lead.

*Manning attempted 48 passes against the Cowboys, the sixth time in his career he has thrown that many passes. The Giants are 0-6 in those games.

*Manning's first eight career 300-yard games were on the road. Now his four-highest career passing outputs have been at home, including his 373-yard outing on Sunday:

Date Yards Opponent
12/13/09 391 Philadelphia
9/26/10  386 Tennessee
11/22/09 384 Atlanta
11/14/10  373 Dallas

*The Giants are 6-0 this season when they hold their opponents to less than 100 rushing yards and 0-3 when they don't.

*The Giants' defense is still ranked first in the NFL, allowing 270.2 yards a game. But the unit is ranked 14th in scoring defense, giving up 21.4 points per game.

*The offense is ranked second in the NFL with an average of 409.8 yards a game.

*The Giants' offense is tied for first (with the Chargers) with 23.1 first downs a game and the defense is No. 1 by allowing 13.9 first downs a game.

*Bradshaw is tied for third in the NFL (with Tennessee's Chris Johnson) with 838 rushing yards.

*Hakeem Nicks is fourth in the NFL with 56 receptions. He is sixth with 735 yards.

*Osi Umenyiora is second in the league with 9.0 sacks.
