EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Notes and statistics from the Giants' 17-0 loss to the Tennessee Titans in MetLife Stadium:
*The Giants fell to 5-9, guaranteeing they will finish with a losing record for the second straight season. They were 3-13 in 2017.
*The Giants are 2-5 at home and 1-2 vs. the AFC South this season. They play in Indianapolis next week before ending their season at home vs. Dallas on Dec. 30.
*The Giants' defeat eliminated them from all NFC postseason possibilities.
*The Giants, who scored 40 points in a victory in Washington last week, were shut out for the first time since a 23-0 loss to Arizona on Dec. 24, 2017, and for the first time at home since a 23-0 defeat to Seattle on Dec. 15, 2013. Their previous low point total this season was 13 in losses at Dallas on Sept. 16 and to Washington on Oct. 28. They had averaged 31.4 points in their previous five games
*The Giants have not scored in their last five quarters and in the last 84:22 of game time.
*The Giants trailed at halftime, 7-0. It was the second time this season they did not score in the first half. On Sept. 16 in Dallas, they were behind at the half, 10-0, and lost, 20-13. The game Sunday was the sixth this season in which they did not score a first-half touchdown.
*The Giants finished with 260 yards, their lowest total since they gained 170 yards at Washington on Nov. 23, 2017.
*The Giants finished with 260 yards, their second-lowest total of the season; they gained 255 yards at Dallas on Sept. 16.
*Tennessee rushed for 215 yards, the highest total by a Giants opponent since Minnesota ran for 218 yards on Dec. 27, 2015.
*The Titans finished with 86 net passing yards, the lowest total by a Giants opponent since Chicago threw for 51 yards on Oct. 3, 2010.
*The Giants' 15 first downs tied their season low, set in the opener vs. Jacksonville on Sept. 9.
*The Giants did not have a takeaway for the fifth time this season, and have lost their last 10 games in which they did not force a turnover. They last won such a game on Oct. 16, 2016, against Baltimore.
*The Giants have lost their last three home games to the Titans, in 2002, 2006 and Sunday. The series is tied, 6-6.
*Eli Manning completed 21 of 44 passes for 229 yards and one interception for a season-low passer rating of 54.1.
*Saquon Barkley rushed for 31 yards, his second-lowest total of the season. His previous low was 28 yards at Dallas on Sept. 16. He also caught four passes for 25 yards. Barkley's 56 yards from scrimmage was his lowest total of the season. It was just the second time in 14 games that Barkley finished with fewer than 100 scrimmage yards; he had 94 in Atlanta. Both sub 100-yard games ended streaks of six consecutive games in which he finished with at least 100 yards from scrimmage.
*Odell Beckham Jr. missed his second consecutive game with a quad injury. Tight end Evan Engram led the team with a career high-tying eight receptions for a team-high 75 yards. Engram also had eight catches vs. Philadelphia on Dec. 17, 2017.
*Four wide receivers had two receptions apiece – Bennie Fowler, Sterling Shepard, Russell Shepard, and Jawill Davis.
*Linebacker B.J. Goodson led the Giants with nine solo tackles. Kareem Martin also nine tackles (four solo).
*Michael Thomas, who is starting at strong safety in place of the injured Landon Collins, had the Giants' only sack of Marcus Mariota, an eight-yarder in the second quarter. It was Thomas' second career sack and first since Sept. 18, 2016, when he played for Miami at New England and tackled Jacoby Brissett for a 14-yard loss.
*The Giants successfully executed a fake punt when Riley Dixon rushed for 14 yards on a fourth-and-10 with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Coach Pat Shurmur said Dixon "improvised" on the play. The Giants ran three plays before time expired.
The fake punt was the Giants' first since Nov. 19, 2017, when a direct snap to up-back Nat Berhe gained two yards on a fourth-and-one vs. Kansas City. Dixon is the first Giants punter with a rushing attempt on a fake punt since Nov. 28, 2011, when Steve Weatherford took off on his own and was stopped for no gain on a fourth-and-seven in New Orleans.
*The Giants did not attempt a field goal for the first time since Oct. 8, 2017 vs. the Chargers. Aldrick Rosas' streak of consecutive games with at least one field goal ended at 14.
*One week after finishing with a season-low two penalties, the Giants had 10 accepted penalties, for 58 yards.
*Tennessee running back Derrick Henry rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries. He had the highest rushing total by a Giants opponent since Dec. 27, 2009, when former Carolina Panther Jonathan Stewart rushed for 206 yards. Stewart is currently on the Giants' injured reserve list. Henry has rushed for 408 yards and six touchdowns in his last two games.
*Henry is the fifth running back to rush for at least 100 yards against the Giants this season.
*Henry is the first opposing back to rush for two touchdowns against the Giants since the Rams' Todd Gurley on Nov. 5, 2017.
*Henry scored the game's first touchdown on a one-yard run with 2:43 remaining in the first quarter, capping a 75-yard drive that was completed in 15 plays and 7:45. It was the third 15-play drive (a season high) by a Giants opponent this year. All three were in MetLife. Jacksonville and New Orleans kicked field goals to conclude their long series.
*Shurmur was 1-1 on a pair of replay challenges just 1:10 apart in the second quarter.
With 13:39 remaining, Ukeme Eligwe tried to down a Dixon punt inside the 10, but the officials ruled he never had control of the ball before he bobbled it into the end zone, resulting in a touchback. Shurmur challenged, insisting Eligwe did have possession. After review, referee Shawn Hochuli said Eligwe did possess the ball with two feet down and placed the ball at the nine-yard line.
Shurmur was not so successful with 12:29 left in the quarter. On a 22-yard run to the left side, Henry tip-toed near the sideline. Shurmur thought he stepped out of bounds, and threw his red challenge flag. After review, the call on the field – and Henry's 22-yard gain – was upheld.
Shurmur is 2-3 this season on replay challenges.
*Three Giants left the game with injuries: center Spencer Pulley (calf), defensive back Antonio Hamilton (quad), and wide receiver Russell Shepard (leg).
*Defensive back Kenny Ladler made his Giants debut, but had no statistics. Ladler had last played on Oct. 21, for Washington against Dallas, the last of five games he appeared in for the Redskins this season.
*Running back Wayne Gallman was in uniform but did not play.
*After a two-game stint as the Giants' No. 2 quarterback that included his NFL debut last week, rookie Kyle Lauletta returned to the inactive list, and Alex Tanney was again Manning's backup. Also inactive were Beckham, tight end Garrett Dickerson, defensive backs Tony Lippett and Kamrin Moore, defensive lineman John Jenkins and offensive lineman Evan Brown.
