- The Giants defense picked up a takeaway on San Francisco's first offensive series when running back Frank Gore slipped and lost the ball and it was recovered by Zack Bowman at the Giants' 37-yard line. It was the second time this season the Giants had a first-possession takeaway. On Sept. 25 in Washington, Mathias Kiwanuka sacked and forced a fumble by Kirk Cousins that was recovered at the Redskins' 24 by Cullen Jenkins. That takeaway also led to a Manning-to-Donnell touchdown pass.

Coughlin challenged, claiming Beckham had the first down. After review, referee Gene Steratore upheld the ruling on the field. The Giants then failed to get the first down when Jennings was stopped for no gain. Coughlin is 1-2 this season, 41-48 with the Giants and 50-55 in his career on replay challenges.
