• The Giants lost their fifth consecutive game to fall to 3-7. It is their worst record after 10 games since 1998, when they were also 3-7 and finished 8-8.

• The Giants have lost five in a row one year after starting 0-6. This is the first time they've had losing streaks of at least five games in consecutive seasons since 2003-04, when they lost eight in a row each year.

• San Francisco's 16 points were the fewest allowed by the Giants in defeat since Oct. 16, 2005, when they lost in overtime in Dallas, 16-13.

• The 49ers finished with 333 total yards. The Giants had allowed at least 423 yards in each of their previous four games.

• The Giants scored a touchdown on their first offensive possession when Eli Manning threw a 19-yard pass to tight end Larry Donnell. It broke a streak of 20 consecutive games in which the Giants did not score a touchdown on their opening series, which had been the longest in the NFL. The Giants had last scored on their first drive on Oct. 6, 2013, when David Wilson scored on a five-yard run vs. Philadelphia. It was the Giants' first first-possession points of any kind since Dec. 22, 2013, when Josh Brown kicked a 41-yard field goal in Detroit.

• Under Tom Coughlin, the Giants are 22-12 in regular season games in which they score a touchdown on their first possession.

The Giants fell to 3-1 this season in games in which they score first.

• The Giants won the coin toss and deferred possession to the second half. It was the first time they deferred since Dec. 15, 2013 vs. Seattle. The Giants are 0-6 when they win the coin toss and defer.

• The Giants defense picked up a takeaway on San Francisco's first offensive series when running back Frank Gore slipped and lost the ball and it was recovered by Zack Bowman at the Giants' 37-yard line. It was the second time this season the Giants had a first-possession takeaway. On Sept. 25 in Washington, Mathias Kiwanuka sacked and forced a fumble by Kirk Cousins that was recovered at the Redskins' 24 by Cullen Jenkins. That takeaway also led to a Manning-to-Donnell touchdown pass.

• The Giants' time of possession of 25:01 was their lowest since Dec. 8, 2013 at San Diego, where they owned the ball for only 23:04.

• Manning tied his career high with five interceptions – after entering the game with six all season, including one in his last five games and two in his last seven. He had previously thrown five interceptions in a game vs. Seattle last season. This was the first game in which Manning threw more than two interceptions since the loss to the Seahawks 11 months ago.

Manning threw interceptions on back-to-back Giants possessions in the second quarter, the first time he's done that since Oct. 10, 2013 at Chicago, where he was picked off on each of the Giants' first two offensive series.

• Manning completed 22 of 45 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown in addition to the five picks. His passer rating of 36.6 was his lowest since he posted a 31.9 rating against Seattle in 2013.

• Rueben Randle had seven receptions for a career-high 112 yards. His previous best was 101 yards at Dallas on Sept. 8, 2012. The seven catches were one shy of his career best; he had eight receptions at Washington on Sept. 25.

• Rookie Odell Beckham Jr. finished seven yards shy of his third consecutive 100-yard game, catching six passes for 93 yards, including a spectacular 37-yarder that gave the Giants a first down at the San Francisco four-yard line late in the fourth quarter.

Donnell extended his team lead with his sixth touchdown reception. He caught three passes for 54 yards, including an acrobatic 30-yarder on a play in which linebacker Michael Wilhoite was flagged for pass interference.

• Running back Rashad Jennings returned to action after missing four games with a sprained knee and rushed for 59 yards on 18 carries.

• The Giants recovered an onside kick in the third quarter, their first successful onside kick since Nov. 7, 2004 vs. Chicago.

Kicker Josh Brown, a 12-year veteran, was credited with his first career forced fumble on the play. Mark Herzlich recovered Bubba Ventrone's fumble.

• Fullback Henry Hynoski picked up a first down with a four-yard run, his longest since a five-yarder vs. New Orleans on Dec, 9, 2012.

• Robert Ayers had the Giants' only sack of Colin Kaepernick, an eight-yarder in the first quarter.

• Linebacker Jameel McClain led the Giants with 14 tackles (11 solo). Rookie Devon Kennard had nine tackles (seven solo), as did Herzlich (six solo).

Charles Brown played on offense for the first time as a Giant when he took over for Justin Pugh at right tackle in the second quarter. Pugh suffered a strained quad and did not return. It was Brown's second appearance; he played on special teams at Dallas on Oct. 19. Brown did not play at Philadelphia on Oct. 12 and was inactive for the other seven games. The five-year veteran was signed as a free agent on April 1.

• Running back Orleans Darkwa, signed last week, made his Giants debut on special teams.

• Linebacker Justin Anderson, signed off the practice squad yesterday, made his NFL debut on special teams.

• Coughlin lost a replay challenge with 30 seconds left in the third quarter. On third-and-seven, Manning threw to Beckham, who the officials ruled was stopped inches short of the first down. Coughlin challenged, claiming Beckham had the first down. After review, referee Gene Steratore upheld the ruling on the field. The Giants then failed to get the first down when Jennings was stopped for no gain. Coughlin is 1-2 this season, 41-48 with the Giants and 50-55 in his career on replay challenges.

• San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was 0-2 on replay challenges. He challenged the Giants' recovery of Brown's onside kick, as well as Beckham's long reception. Each time, Steratore confirmed the ruling on the field. Opposing coaches are 3-3 this season and 33-38 in Coughlin's 11 seasons in replay challenges.

• The Giants' regular-season series with the 49ers is now tied, 15-15. Total points: Giants 589, San Francisco 579.

• Herzlich joined captains Manning, Antrel Rolle and Zak DeOssie for the pregame coin toss. Former Giants kicker Matt Bahr was an honorary captain.

• The Giants' inactive players were linebacker Jacquian Williams (concussion), defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins (calf), offensive linemen Adam Snyder, Brandon Mosley and James Brewer, cornerback Mike Harris and defensive end Kerry Wynn.
