EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The New York Giants and Stop & Shop will host the team's fourteenth annual food drive at the New Meadowlands Stadium when they host the Dallas Cowboys on November 14, 2010. Fans are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable foods and deposit them at any of the FoodBank trucks parked at the West and Pepsi gates. All food collected during the drive will be donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (a member of Feeding America) for distribution to local partner agencies in the area
"The Giants are proud to join with our partners at Stop & Shop to host this week's food drive at such an important time for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey," said Allison Stangeby, Director of Community Relations for the New York Giants. "Each year, our fans show why they are the best in the league, and make supporting their neighbors part of their gameday experience."
This year more than ever we need your support. The combination of low wages, high rents, and rising energy prices are forcing more working poor families to choose between buying food and paying for other necessities like shelter or medicine.
"In all my years of food banking, I have never seen a time like this when so many are in need," said Kathleen DiChiara, President and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. "We are coming off of a record year, having distributed 35 million pounds of food and groceries. And still it is not enough, the need continues to rise."
"Stop & Shop remains committed to our efforts to relieve hunger in the communities in which we operate. We are proud to partner with the NY Giants and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey on this and many of our other hunger relief programs," said Amy Murphy, Director of Communications Stop & Shop Supermarkets New York Metro.
Since 1997, the New York Giants have hosted an annual food drive and helped feed thousands of their neighbors during the holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of our fans, nearly 5,000 pounds of canned or non-perishable foods is collected each year. Once again, we ask our friends and fans to Join the Team and assist our neighbors in need.
