Smith's arrival gives the Giants five quarterbacks – starter Eli Manning, 2013 reserves Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib, and former first-round draft choice and ex-Buccaneer and Viking Josh Freeman, who was signed a week ago. Manning is recovering from arthroscopic ankle surgery and is not expected to begin running until next month.

Smith, 6-5 and 217 pounds, played in only three regular-season games – starting one – in his four seasons in Tennessee. He made two appearances in 2010 and one in 2012. His career totals include 23 completions in 45 attempts for 234 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions.

In 2013, Smith played in all four of the Titans' preseason games and completed 24 of 39 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Smith was one of the Titans' two sixth-round draft choices in 2010, the 176th overall selection, from Florida Atlantic. As a rookie, he played in two games and completed 20 of 40 passes for 200 yards and four interceptions. Smith made his NFL debut in relief of Vince Young vs. Washington on Nov. 21 and hit three of nine passes. His first pro completion was a 52-yarder to Nate Washington.

The following week, Smith made his lone NFL start in Houston, where he completed 17 of 31 passes for 138 yards and three picks in a loss to the Texans.

In 2011, Smith was inactive for 15 games and dressed but did not play at Indianapolis on Dec. 18. The following season, he played in reserve at Minnesota on Oct. 7 and completed three of five passes for 34 yards.

Last year, Smith was waived by the Titans on Aug. 31 and signed to their practice squad two days later. He was signed to the active roster on Oct. 5, but did not play in a game. Smith became a free agent after the season.

Smith was the most prolific passer in Florida Atlantic football history. In four seasons with the Owls, he set school records with 768 completions, 10,112 passing yards and 76 touchdowns passes. He led Florida Atlantic to back-to-back bowl appearances.
