Giants Press Conference Quotes

HEAD COACH TOM COUGHLIN  (on the game in general)
"Obviously not what we came to do. I thought the first half they kept us off-balance with the run. I think we were all surprised that they were able to run and run with some consistency. I thought that allowed them pretty much to do what they wanted to do, one example being the outstanding play-action pass that was executed for the touchdown. ... In a game of this nature, all three phases have to complement each other. Our defense was on the field an awful lot in the first half. We didn't get anything done with the offense. ... I told the players that there is an awful lot we can learn from this. The team we played tonight out-executed us – outplayed us, out-executed us."

HEAD COACH TOM COUGHLIN  (on the Colts' running the ball so well)
"They ran the ball 10 times last week (at Houston) and threw it 57 times. They didn't have the distribution, I'm sure, that they wanted. We felt that they were going to throw the ball certainly more than they were going to run it, and that's how we prepared. That's how most people prepare for this team. I don't know why, until I look at the tape, why some of the runs were able to come through like they did."

HEAD COACH TOM COUGHLIN  (on the Giants running game)
"There were some signs even early on that had we been able to have a nice mix, I think we would have had a good balance."

HEAD COACH TOM COUGHLIN  (on the performance of Eli Manning)
"Obviously, he wanted to play extremely well and he worked hard to play extremely well. We had some trouble with some protections. ... He's going to feel very bad about it, very bad that we didn't win, very bad that we didn't play better, etc, etc. I wish I could shut that part of it down, too, that there wouldn't be any of those occasions. Unfortunately, that's not the case."

QB- ELI  MANNING  (on the game in general)
"(The Colts) played an outstanding game on both sides of the ball. Offensively for us, we couldn't get into a rhythm the whole first half. When you can't get first downs, it's hard to get into your plays and your calls. A lot of three and outs. We didn't move the ball well  -- we didn't run the ball especially well, we didn't throw the ball well. They outplayed us."

QB- ELI  MANNING  (on the Colts defense)
"They have great defensive ends, a great defensive rush, causing us to get sacks or throw it away or get it out quickly. ... It was hard to get into a rhythm and consistently do it. They made more big plays than we did. ... They didn't do anything different than we had seen on film. It wasn't like they came out and showed a whole different defense. They just outperformed us."

QB- ELI  MANNING  (on his meeting with brother Peyton Manning after the game)
"I told him, 'Good game,' and that I'd talk to him later. The camera is there. It's hard to have a long conversation. I'll have it on a phone call; we'll talk later on."

QB- ELI  MANNING  (on what comes out of a game like this)
"You just learn from it. It goes down as a loss. We're 1-1 right now. Everybody in the division is 1-1, except Dallas is 0-2 obviously. We're not in a bad spot. We can definitely learn from it. The Colts are a good team. It's not a team we play all that often. You're not used to some of the things they do and their speed and that offense. We just didn't  perform well, but obviously we can learn from it. You can learn from what the Colts did. They got beat pretty good last week by the Texans, and they came out this week and they had a little fire under them and played real well."

LB – MICHAEL BOLEY (on what went wrong tonight)
"Everything. We just got outplayed. It wasn't about figuring out what they did or what we did. They just played a better game than we did today."

LB – MICHAEL BOLEY (on why Giants couldn't rally like last week)
"They did a good job of keeping us on our heels and keeping things mixed up. It worked for them."

DE – JUSTIN TUCK (on why the Giants couldn't stop Colts)
"You know, they did a great job of executing. How they blocked, it really made it difficult for us to get penetration. A lot of the runs were cutback runs and they just were taking advantage of us over pursuing to the ball."

DE – JUSTIN TUCK (how the Colts blocking was different than week one)
"I think we did a pretty good job frontside, but backside was all night. A lot of their runs just came off cutbacks. Give them credit. Their backs did a good job of seeing the hole and hitting it. Even when we tackled them, they rolled forward for three or four more yards."* *

DE – JUSTIN TUCK (on Colts taking advantage of personnel)
"In the first half we wanted to stop the run with a six-man box. In spurts, we did well, but in other spurts we didn't. I think the second half we kind of went back to the traditional way of stopping the run and I think we did better. But give those guys credit. They came prepared and executed their gameplan very well tonight and we didn't."

RB-AHMAD BRADWHAW (on his team's performance)
"It started off early. They outplayed us. They came out ready more than we were. Our running game seemed fine to me. It's what we thought was coming. There wasn't anything that we had to adjust to, it's just how many times we did it and what we have to do against it. They lost last week and they came fired up this week. They had something to prove and they proved it to us."

RB-BRANDON JACOBS (on throwing his helmet and it ending up in the stands)*

*"I was a little mad, but to be honest with you it was a mistake. It got caught on the sticky leather of my gloves and I did not mean to do that. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not mean to do something like that. The whole world could've been falling down on me and I wouldn't do something like that. I would like to apologize to Indy, first of all, and their fans, and our organization. It was something that happened that shouldn't have happened. I got frustrated and went to throw my helmet under the bench and it caught my middle finger and flicked up into the stands. It really was something I did not mean to do. The apologies are real. It's not just something I'm saying because it happened. It was a mistake and it wasn't supposed to happen. I've got to keep my cool and try not to throw my helmet anywhere. I apologized to the fella that caught it and also to the people around him. I don't know what else to really say."
