*Left tackle Will Beatty missed practice because of his ongoing back issues.
"He's back on the shelf," Coughlin said. "He's back in the training room.
"They evaluated him last night and they didn't feel like it was… They felt like if he kept going along the way he is right now, he would have only got worse and worse. They shut him down. "
Sean Locklear played left tackle again with the first unit today.
*Cornerback Terrell Thomas tested his injured knee today by running in a pool for the first time.
"Good. Progress. Taking it slow but doing everything I can in the meantime to get my knee strong and healthy again," Thomas said. "When I'm able to return, I'll be ready to go."
Neither Thomas nor the Giants know when that will be.
"I don't think there is a time frame," he said. "I think it's just whenever the doctor gives me an okay based on how he feels, how I feel and how I progress through my rehab."
*Isaiah Stanback said he heard from friends and relatives around the country after his incredible one-handed touchdown reception last week in Jacksonville.
"My phone was kind of blowing up a little bit," Stanback said. "I guess it ended up on the top plays of SportsCenter. So I definitely got a lot more messages after that."
Stanback, who is fighting for a roster spot, didn't let the attention go to his head.
"It's always good, but we got some more weeks," he said. "I need that play a couple more times."
*Coughlin indicated newly-signed Laron Scott might get a chance to return kickoffs vs. the Jets. Scott had a 67-yard return for New Orleans in the Hall of Fame game, but was waived the following day.
*Tight end Bear Pasco and safety Tyler Sash scuffled near the end of practice.
"I didn't like it," Coughlin said. "It wasn't necessary. It was actually after the play was over."
