15) Is Brian Daboll taking over play-calling duties?
Dan Salomone: This question goes back to the NFL Annual Meeting in late March, when coach Brian Daboll conceded that he was considering calling the Giants' offensive plays this season. That duty was largely Mike Kafka's during Daboll's first two seasons.
"It's something I'm looking into," Daboll said at the time. "I think there's 20 head coaches at this point in time that call plays in the league (either offensively or defensively). … There might be a little bit more. I've been doing a bunch of research, but no decision has been made. I'm still going through that process, thinking about what we need to do."
Daboll added, "I'll take my time and do what I think is best for the team."
Fast-forwarding to spring practices, Daboll confirmed he was the voice in the quarterback's ear more consistently but stressed the final decision won't be made until the end of training camp.
Should he take over full-time, Daboll has a long and successful history of calling plays. When he was the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator in 2020, Daboll was voted the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year after the Bills finished 13-3 and unseated New England atop the division. Daboll is the first person to win both Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year.
