2017 Bracket Challenge: LSU Vs. West Virginia
Â
LSU
Notables: WR Odell Beckham Jr. (2014, 1st Rd), CB Corey Webster (2005, 2nd Rd), DE Leonard Marshall (1983, 2nd Rd)
If you need playmakers, pick from LSU. Beckham is the first Giants player to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons since Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor from 1981-83. Webster started more than 100 games for the Giants and was a postseason hero en route to two Super Bowl titles. Marshall also won two championships and was a member of some of the best defenses in the history of the game. He currently ranks third in franchise history with 79.5 sacks.
VS.
WEST VIRGINIA
Notable: LB Sam Huff (1956, 3rd Rd), QB Jeff Hostetler (1984, 3rd Rd)
Huff became an immediate star at middle linebacker after he was drafted by the Giants in the third round in 1956 following an All-America career at West Virginia. He played in five Pro Bowls and was named All-NFL four years. Huff won recognition for his great individual efforts against the premier running backs of his era, most notably Jim Brown of Cleveland, which became a famous rivalry. Huff anchored a defense that helped the Giants reach the championship game in 1956, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962 and 1963. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982. Hostetler famously took over for an injured Phil Simms late in the 1990 season, leading the Giants to a victory in Super Bowl XXV. He went 5-0 as a starter that year, including three playoff victories, and never threw an interception.
