The Giants have signed DB Chykie Brown
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –**
The Giants today added depth to their injury-depleted secondary when they were awarded cornerback Chykie Brown off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.
To make room on the roster, they placed cornerback Prince Amukamara on injured reserve. Amukamara suffered a torn biceps in the Giants' loss to Indianapolis Monday night.
Brown is a 5-11, 191-pound four-year veteran. He was waived yesterday after playing in seven games this season, including the Ravens' loss Sunday night in Pittsburgh, where he had one tackle. Brown was inactive for two weeks. Brown, who started the season opener vs. Cincinnati, was credited with nine tackles this season.
Brown is the second cornerback to join the Giants in as many weeks. Last week, they signed Mike Harris off the Detroit Lions' practice squad.
The Giants' secondary has been weakened by injuries. In addition to Amukamara, Walter Thurmond (pectoral) and Trumaine McBride (thumb) are also on injured reserve after suffering season-ending injuries. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the starting left cornerback and one of the Giants' notable offseason acquisitions, is battling back and hamstring injuries.
Brown – whose first name is pronounced SHOCK-ee – joined the Ravens as a fifth-round draft choice from Texas in 2011, the 164th overall selection. He has played in 46 regular-season games with two starts. His career totals include 28 tackles (25 solo) and seven pass breakups. Brown played in all 16 games in both 2012 and 2013.
Brown played in four postseason games with two starts when the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII.
A Houston native, Brown played in 45 games with 23 starts at Texas and was credited with 106 tackles (71 solo) and intercepted two passes.
Chykie is the fourth Brown on the Giants' roster, joining Charles, Josh and Stevie.
*The Giants signed safety Kyle Sebetic to their practice squad. He was with the Giants in training camp after signing as a free agent from the University of Dayton on June 3. He was waived on Aug. 26.
The Giants had an opening on their practice squad after the New Orleans Saints signed tackle Nick Becton to their active roster yesterday.
