2. The next man up.
With Will Beatty limited with a headaches, Charles Brown ran with the first team at left tackle. Brown worked against JPP for the majority of practice and, after a rocky start to camp, held his own against the former Pro Bowler. Brown started 12 games with the Saints in 2013.
Also stepping into a first-team role was DT Johnathan Hankins. Last year's second-round pick out of Ohio State replaced veteran Mike Patterson. Patterson participated in individual drills but did not participate in 11-on-11 drills after suffering a shoulder injury at Thursday's practice. Rookie Jay Bromley replaced Hankins on the second team.
3. Quarterbacks on the run.
On two separate occasions, Ryan Nassib pulled down the ball and took off on a designed quarterback run. Nassib was a successful scrambler in college. Both runs were moderately successful; Nassib picked up about seven yards on each. The team also ran a designed quarterback run with Curtis Painter in their red zone drill.
*4. A growing role for the fullbacks. *
Heading into training camp there was a question as to whether or not new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense would employ a fullback, and if so, in what capacity. John Conner, second on the Giants' depth chart behind Henry Hynoski, was involved in the team's passing game, catching a check down pass from Eli Manning, and the running game, carrying the ball in the team's red zone drill from about two yards out. Conner finished his run in the end zone but players were in just helmets and shoulder pads.
5. Injury report
WR Trindon Holliday, LB Spencer Paysinger and TE Xavier Grimble worked on the side of the field and did not practice.
