Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), a world leader in orthopedics and rheumatology and the Official Hospital of The New York Giants, announced today the launch of the "Get Fit Like the Giants!" contest.
Supporting the importance of overall fitness and wellness, fans are invited to submit entertaining and healthy exercise videos that show how they train like their favorite Giants players. The contest winners receive a chance to tour the Timex Performance Center (TPC), including the field house, weight room and Super Bowl trophy case; a Q&A with HSS and Giants medical and training staff; alumni autographs and photos; a gift bag; and lunch in the TPC cafeteria. The Grand Prize winner will also enjoy a personalized meet and greet with Giants alumni.
The video contest is part of HSS's and the Giants' effort to encourage fans, amateur athletes and "weekend warriors" to sustain a healthy, active lifestyle throughout the football season and beyond. Instructional videos featuring former Giants players Howard Cross and Charles Way appear on http://www.hss.edu/. In the videos, HSS physicians and physical therapists, as well as a Giants certified athletic trainer lead the Giants alumni through a series of workouts, highlighting joint alignment and core strength, which demonstrate training methods to help athletes prevent injuries and perform at their best.
"Obviously, the Giants understand the importance of fitness and wellness," said Mike Stevens, Senior Vice President and CMO of the New York Football Giants. "We are proud of our partnership with the Hospital for Special Surgery and look forward to encouraging our fans to 'Get Fit' with this contest."
Football fans 16 years of age and older are invited to submit a short video of 60 seconds or less showcasing how they "Get Fit Like the Giants." All content will be evaluated on originality, creativity and association with health and wellness. This may include specific football drills on blocking, tackling, passing, running, catching, conditioning and stretching exercises or even making healthy food choices. Submissions will be accepted via HSS's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hspecialsurgery) until November 30, 2012. Five finalists will be selected, and then fans across the country will have the opportunity to vote for their three favorites.
"On behalf of HSS, we are proud to support the New York Giants and are excited to bring this program to their fans," said Louis A. Shapiro, President and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery. "This event is an integral part of our commitment to help both the professional athlete and the 'weekend warrior' to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle."
To enter the "Get Fit Like the Giants!" contest, fans must first "Like" HSS on Facebook (www.facebook.com/hspecialsurgery). The "Get Fit Like the Giants" contest is open to legal U.S. residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, at least 16 years old at time of entry, who reside within a 75-mile radius of MetLife Stadium.
