After a players' day off, the New York Giants returned to the field on Monday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Players put on the shells to kick off the second week of training camp before they strap up the pads for the first time tomorrow.
"We'll ramp up the team a little bit more," coach Joe Judge said before practice. "The emphasis still remains on getting our football conditioning right away, improving on fundamentals, and then we're going to keep advancing with the install and the situations that come up."
Here are Monday's standout players:
TE Evan Engram
The 2020 Pro Bowl selection had an active practice again, highlighted by a nifty touchdown on a pass from Daniel Jones. Engram spun as he caught it to avoid the incoming hit and took it up the field for a score.
"I just took advantage of a fully healthy off-season," Engram said last week. "Didn't have any setbacks, no recovery stuff, no lingering injuries, so took a little bit of time off and I took advantage of having a fully healthy of-fseason and got to work. Same mindset always in the off-season, getting better, attacking things I can improve on, but just taking advantage of a fully healthy of-fseason."
WR David Sills V
Sills caught two touchdowns from backup Mike Glennon, the second of which came on the final play of practice. The 6-foot-3 receiver has flashed early after he spent the entire 2020 season on injured reserve with a fractured foot he suffered in training camp.
CB Adoree' Jackson
Jackson had the defensive play of the day, breaking up a potential touchdown pass through traffic in the end zone. Jackson added another layer to an impressive secondary this off-season, which is sharpening the skills of the Giants' receivers – and vice versa. Darius Slayton spoke after practice about Jackson.
"He's a really athletic, quick, fast guy," Slayton said. "He falls and he backflips off the ground, stuff like that. He's a different kind of athlete."
Honorable mention
WR Sterling Shepard hooked up a few times with Jones…DBs Sam Beal, Montre Hartage, Quincy Wilson, Julian Love, and Chris Milton all made nice plays to force incompletions…LB Cale Garrett broke up a pass…WR Kenny Golladay elevated to make a nice catch on a pass from Jones.
