Eisen's Mailbag: Will Odell Beckham start?

**

Do you think Odell Beckham Jr. will start against the Lions in the first game of the season, and if he does, what kind of impact will he have in the regular season? ** -Isaac

Dear Isaac:
These are two very different questions. Whether or not Beckham is a starter in Detroit will mean little in terms of his season-long impact. If the Giants open the game in a three-wideout set – which will depend on field position and what play Ben McAdoo wants to call – Beckham could be on the field for play No. 1. As for his season-long contribution, until proven otherwise, I would expect him to perform like many rookies – gradually improving and making a more significant impact late in the season. Beckham has demonstrated his skill set in the OTAs, but it's a long journey to consistently putting up numbers in the regular season. Yes, I think Beckham will be an outstanding player. But for most rookies, it takes time.

Have Rueben Randle and DRC been playing across from each other, and how has that battle been going?
-Kevin

Dear Kevin
Randle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie have had some one-on-one duels in the OTAs, but they not very frequently.  The coaches are looking at numerous receivers and cornerbacks in various combinations and schemes, so it's almost a luck-of-the-draw type thing. And as usually happens when two highly-skilled players go head-to-head, both Randle and DRC have won their share of the battles. Randle looks to be improved and DRC is a top-shelf corner who opposing receivers will not want to face this season.

Who do you think will finish second in sacks this year? JPP will probably be first, but who will be second? I would guess Robert Ayers.
-Joe

Dear Joe:
That's a good guess, and you might be correct. But I'm going to go with Damontre Moore, who has worked hard this offseason and should be noticeably improved in his sophomore season.
