If he does, I doubt he'll do it often. The Giants signed Dwayne Harris largely because he is an outstanding punt and kickoff returner.
He should get the first chance to win the job. If he falters for any reason Beckham could return punts, but I don't expect it to happen immediately.

I'm hesitant to single out any player as the "most important" on defense. JPP is certainly one of them. You can make a case for Jon Beason, who is the middle linebacker, defensive leader and cold be the team's leading tackler. He's literally at the center of everything
Johnathan Hankins is a standout run-stopping defensive tackle who also contributes rare pass-rushing ability at his position. In a passing league, cornerbacks Prince Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie will be tasked each week with shutting down the NFL's best wide receivers. The Giants have a long list of important defensive players.
