Is this the strongest/most talented group of cornerbacks that the NY Giants has ever had? The best secondary?

I think it's a little early to hand out those plaudits. Can we play a few games – and face a few quarterbacks and receivers – before anointing this as the Giants' best secondary? The potential is certainly here for it to be a very strong and productive group. The Giants have three former first round draft choices starting in the secondary - Prince Amukamara, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Antrel Rolle – plus Walter Thurmond, Trumaine McBride, Jayron Hosley and Zack Bowman (signed Monday) at corner and Rolle, Will Hill, Stevie Brown, Quintin Demps and Cooper Taylor at safety. Bowman, by the way, is also an excellent special teams player. And they could add more defensive drafts in the back. If everyone stays healthy should be much-improved in the secondary.
After the recent 2005 draft "do-over" on NFL.com, does this mean that the 2005 draft could go down as one of if not the best draft we've had considering we had three players now considered first round picks when we didn't even have a first round pick?

That seems to be a very unusual way to judge a draft. The Giants did very well in 2005 without a first round choice (which went to San Diego in the Eli Manning trade). In order, they obtained Corey Webster, Justin Tuck and Brandon Jacobs, three players who each earned two Super Bowl rings. But is it better than 2004 (though Manning wasn't a Giants draft choice, I think he should be included in that group) or 2007 (Ross, Smith, Boss, DeOssie and Bradshaw)? I'm not sure what the answer is, but it sure is fun to debate, isn't it?
What do you expect from Cooper Tayler this year? Could he be a hybrid linebacker/safety with his size and speed?
-Bill
Dear Bill:
Taylor is strictly a safety. I expect he'll challenge for a roster spot. As noted above, four safeties are currently ahead of him. If he makes the team, I think he will be a contributor on special teams. But if everyone stays healthy, it's hard to say he will get a chance to play on defense.
