Heading into the bye week, the Giants are over two-thirds of the way through the 2023 campaign.
While the team's 4-8 record up to this point is not what anyone on the team was hoping for, there have been some bright spots this season, including the play of numerous rookies.
All seven 2023 draft picks began the season on the Giants' original 53-man roster, and all of them still remain on the active roster. In addition, undrafted quarterback Tommy DeVito not only signed to the active roster a few weeks ago, but he has also made significant contributions over the last few weeks. More on that later.
Let's take a closer look at how the Giants' rookies have fared so far this season.
CB Deonte Banks
Deonte Banks is coming off perhaps the best game of his rookie season in the Week 12 win over the Patriots. Banks came up with a big splash play in the form of a first-half interception of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, but his strong play went well beyond the box score. The rookie cornerback was targeted seven times in coverage and allowed only three receptions for 29 yards with the interception. Banks earned a passer rating allowed of just 15.5.
The interception was the second of Banks' season. In 12 starts this year, the 22-year-old has registered 10 passes defensed, which is tied for the second-most among all rookie cornerbacks. Only Seattle's Devon Witherspoon (14) has more. Banks has also recorded 43 tackles (35 solo) with one tackle for loss to go with the two interceptions. According to Pro Football Focus, Banks has a passer rating allowed of 83.0 on 75 targets. He was nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Commanders in Week 7.
"I've had some rough moments but there also are some great moments too, so I just have to keep getting better," Banks said last week about his rookie season.
C John Michael Schmitz
An injury suffered early in the Week 4 game against the Seahawks caused him to miss three games, but in the eight full games he has played, Schmitz has been consistent. The rookie center has played 100 percent of the team's offensive snaps in those eight contests and has surrendered three sacks and 18 total pressures, according to PFF. He has three games in which he allowed only one pressure, including last week's win over New England. All 501 of his offensive snaps have come at center.
WR Jalin Hyatt
Similar to Banks, Hyatt also put together the best game of his young NFL career this past Sunday. The rookie wide receiver set new season-highs with six targets, five receptions and 109 yards. He had catches of 22, 29 and 41 yards against the Patriots, which were the team's three longest plays of the day. He became the first Giants receiver with at least three receptions of 20 or more yards in a game since 2021. Hyatt was named the PFF Rookie of the Week in addition to the PFF Team of the Week, and was also the analytics site's highest-ranked wide receiver in Week 12. He was also voted the Pepsi Rookie of the Week.
"He's quarterback friendly," quarterback Tommy DeVito said after Sunday's win. "I mean anybody that's that fast and can make the plays that he makes is quarterback friendly, so it makes a lot easier to put those balls up for him, but he's just a special individual. Special player, route runner, whatever you want to call it and he's a confident dude. He tells me he's like 'I'm going to go get this ball for you' like if we call this, I'm going to make play. So, it takes a lot off my shoulders."
Hyatt now has 330 receiving yards on the season, the third-highest total on the team, while his seven receptions of 20 or more yards trails Darius Slayton by one. Meanwhile, Hyatt's three receptions of 40 or more yards is tied for the fifth-most in the NFL.

RB Eric Gray
Gray has played in eight games this season as a calf injury landed him on injured reserve for four games. The rookie running back has been used primarily as a return specialist this season, with seven punt returns for 28 yards and four kickoff returns for 58 yards. He has registered 13 rush attempts for 27 yards, the bulk of which came in Week 5 against the Dolphins.
CB Tre Hawkins III
Tre Hawkins III has played in all 12 games with three starts. The 6-foot-3 cornerback has accumulated 29 tackles (19 solo) and one pass breakup while playing 40 percent of the team's defensive snaps on the season. Hawkins ranks in the top 10 among rookie cornerbacks against the run, according to PFF.
DL Jordon Riley
Jordon Riley has only played in three games this season and recorded one solo tackle and one tackle for loss. Riley has played 38 snaps on defense and 12 snaps on special teams. He was active for the Week 12 win over New England but did not register any stats.
S Gervarrius Owens
Owens has played in just two games this year, both of which have come against the Commanders. While he did not register any sacks in Week 7, he came up with a big play in the Week 11 win. Owens had one tackle but recovered a fumble on the kickoff to open up the second half after Nick McCloud punched the ball out of Byron Pringle's hands.
QB Tommy DeVito
Due to the injuries at the quarterback position, Tommy DeVito has been thrust into action the past few weeks. DeVito's first game action came in Week 8 in relief of Tyrod Taylor, who injured his rib cage against the Jets. Then the following week, he came in for Daniel Jones after the veteran injured his ACL in the first half. Since then, DeVito has started the last three games and has found plenty of success.
In five games (three starts), DeVito has completed 62.9 percent of his passes for 697 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions for a passer rating of 92.4. He has also added 21 rush attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown. As a starter, the undrafted rookie has thrown six touchdown passes to just one interception.
Following Sunday's win over New England, DeVito became just the fifth undrafted rookie in the common draft era to win at least two of his first three starts. He also became the first undrafted rookie in the common draft era to record a passer rating of 100 or more in consecutive starts. DeVito's 6.7 touchdown percentage is the highest in the NFL among quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts this season.
"Tommy has done a good job as an undrafted free agent," GM Joe Schoen told the media Monday. "He's come a long way since he arrived here in May as an undrafted guy. That's a testament to his work ethic and buying into to the process and (Quarterbacks Coach) Shea (Tierney) and (Offensive Coordinator Mike) Kafka and what they're teaching him. He's taken care of the football the last couple of weeks, and he's done a good job. He's got some swagger and some presence about him that the players like and they follow him."
DeVito was voted the Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Commanders in Week 11.
