Another week is in the books, and once again, the Giants have a nominee for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week award.
For the second time this season, Darius Slayton is up for the weekly honor, this time following his dominating outing on Monday Night Football. The fifth-round pick reeled in five passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns during the team's 23-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Slayton's performance earned him an overall grade of 90.3 from Pro Football Focus, making him the highest-graded Giant in Monday's game, according to PFF.
This was Slayton's third multi-touchdown game of the season. The No. 171 overall pick in the 2019 draft was also nominated for the Pepsi award in Week 10 when he finished with 10 receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Jets.
Slayton sits at or near the top of the rookie leaderboard in most receiving categories. The 22-year-old leads all rookie wide receivers with seven touchdowns while ranking fourth with 659 yards and third with 59.9 yards per game. Slayton is also tied for third among first-year receivers in first downs (29) and tied for fourth in receptions (42) and catches of 20+ yards (12).
Slayton leads the Giants in touchdowns and receiving yards, and ranks second in receptions, just two behind Evan Engram.
The other nominees for the Week 14 Pepsi Rookie of the Week award are Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock (22 of 27 attempts for 309 yards, three touchdowns and one interception for a 136.0 passer rating), Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown (five receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns), Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson (six receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown and an 85-yard punt return touchdown), and Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary (six receptions and 118 scrimmage yards).
The other Giants to earn nominations for Pepsi's rookie award this year are Daniel Jones (Weeks 3, 8 and 10) and Ryan Connelly (Week 4).
The Pepsi Rookie of the Week award is decided by a fan vote each week. Make sure to show your support to Big Blue by submitting a vote for Darius Slayton for this week's honor.
