Asked if Nicks is improved or will be limited, coach Tom Coughlin said, "Hopefully, we're going to see.  That's why he's going to practice. Hopefully, he will be (improved)."

The Giants return to action Sunday night in Washington.

Four players are expected to miss practice, including running back Brandon Jacobs (knee), defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder) and cornerbacks Trumaine McBride (groin) and Terrell Thomas (knee, normal rest day).

Coughlin said "no question" when asked if Pierre-Paul's shoulder must be monitored the remainder of the season. Can JPP get back to full strength this season? "That part is questionable," Coughlin said. The coach later added he has "no idea" if Pierre-Paul will need postseason surgery.

QUICK HITS >>

  • Coughlin did not say who would start at cornerback if McBride can't play. Corey Webster has missed seven of the last nine games with groin and ankle injuries, but is expected to work today. Jayron Hosley is another possibility, but he has been limited with a hamstring injury.

"We're going to look at a bunch of guys today," said Coughlin, who later added, "(Hosley) has had some issues, as you know, and trying to extend him to the point where he feels like there's enough endurance there that he doesn't have an issue; that's where we are."

Coughlin said "as of today" the Giants will start the Washington game with the same offensive line configuration that ended the loss to Dallas - Kevin Boothe at center and James Brewer at left guard. Boothe moved over from guard after center Jim Cordle suffered a patella tendon injury that forced him to go on injured reserve yesterday.

"I thought we were able to continue doing a good job with the rushing game right through the change there," Coughlin said. "It was a very unfortunate injury to Jimmy Cordle who has done an outstanding job for our team whether he was the starter or the backup. He's been very, very consistent in the way he's gone about his work. When the opportunity came for him to play he eased right into that job. He's been a guy that's known his assignments and execute throughout the course he was playing. I feel badly for him that this injury did occur. It was felt by the doctors that only further serious injury could occur is he was allowed to try to play so the decision was made obviously in the best interest of Jimmy not to push this any further."

  • The Giants signed defensive back Ross Weaver to their practice squad. Weaver, 6-0, 200-pound has been in and out of the NFL since 2010, but has never played in a regular-season game. He signed as a free agent out of Michigan State with the Miami Dolphins in 2010 and did stints on the practice squads of Seattle, Dallas and Detroit. Weaver played in four preseason games in 2012 and one this year, all with the Lions. He also played in the Arena Football League from 2010-2012.
