5 takeaways from Giants player interviews

1. Jason Pierre-Paul feels the best he has since the end of the 2012 season. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive end held court for 10 minutes during today's media availability, saying he's "110 percent" healthy. Beginning with an offseason back procedure last year, Pierre-Paul wasn't himself in 2013 when he missed five games and notched just two sacks. The energetic Pierre-Paul had a few other nuggets: he said he has a gut feeling that fellow defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka will be a big factor this season; he won't take it easy on left tackle Will Beatty to make them both better; and stopping the run will be the first priority.

  1. Kiwanuka is focusing solely on defensive end.** The versatile Kiwanuka, who has gone back and forth between defensive end and linebacker throughout his career, is sticking to the defensive line for now. "It's always there, but this linebacker group right now, they've got it all taken care of," Kiwanuka said. "They can rush, they can cover, they can do it all."

3. Miscommunication accounted for "80 percent" of interceptions thrown Randle's way last season. The Giants accounted for an NFL-high 29 interceptions last season and were partly due to miscommunication, says wide receiver Rueben Randle. Entering his third NFL season while learning a new offense, Randle thinks they can be avoided this year.

  1. The pace of the Giants' offense under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is the fastest of Jennings' career. *Running back Rashad Jennings, who signed with the Giants this offseason, spoke about the new-look offense, saying the team could run the whole playbook without a huddle. *
  1. Robinson prepared for McAdoo by watching Packers film.** When he heard that McAdoo, a former Green Bay quarterbacks and tight ends coach, was to become the Giants' offensive coordinator, tight end Adrien Robinson watched Packers film to prepare. Now that he's here, Robinson said today that he is spending more time lining up outside and in the slot.
