For the first time, the Eli-Peyton game will not be played in prime time.
The Giants will play three of their first four games, four of their first six and five of their first eight – plus three of their last five contests - on the road. During one stretch they will play five of seven games at home, including three in a row.
In 2012, the Giants finished 9-7 and did not make the playoffs one season after winning Super Bowl XLVI.
"When I looked at the schedule the first word that came to mind is 'challenge,'" Coach Tom Coughlin said. "The schedule presents us with many challenges, because of the outstanding teams we play and the way it is set up. Anytime you're in the NFC East and you're playing the AFC West and the NFC North, you're going to be faced with a challenging and competitive schedule."
The Giants will begin Coughlin's 10th season as head coach by playing the season's first Sunday night game, in Dallas on Sept. 8 at 8:30. The Giants are 4-0 in Cowboys Stadium, which opened in 2009.
The following week, the Giants will host Peyton Manning and the defending AFC West-champion Denver Broncos in their home opener in MetLife Stadium. Peyton won both regular-season meetings against Eli Manning and the Giants in 2006 and 2010, when he was with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Giants will then go back out on the road for consecutive games at Carolina on Sept. 22 and Kansas City on Sept. 29. Kickoff for both games is 1 p.m. Former Giants pro personnel director Dave Gettleman is the Panthers' new general manager.
"A unique challenge is the opener with Dallas two years in a row - and this time we're on the road," Coughlin said. "Then we have Denver at home, which is the obvious matchup, and we're on the road two weeks in a row. It's interesting that Dallas and Carolina are in the same spots they were last year, first and third.
"I will say this. Here comes the challenge again. We didn't play as well last year on the road as we had in previous years and so that's a great challenge for our team."
On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Giants will play their first division home game when they face the Philadelphia Eagles at 1 p.m.
That will be followed by back-to-back prime time games against the Bears in Chicago on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8:25 p.m. and at home against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, Oct. 21 at 8:40 p.m. The Giants will conclude the first half of their season on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Philadelphia at 1 p.m.
The Giants' bye falls exactly at midseason the following week, Sunday, Nov. 3.
"The bye is at the right time for us," Coughlin said. "That's something I think we can look at, plan toward, play hard for. The break has been a nice spot for us to regroup."
The Giants will then begin a three-game homestand that will include three different starting times: Sunday, Nov. 10 vs. Oakland at 1 p.m., Nov. 17 vs. Green Bay at 8:30 p.m. and Nov. 24 vs. Dallas at 4:25 p.m.
"Anytime you can bunch up those home games it's great for our fans," Coughlin said.
That stretch will be followed by the Giants' fifth scheduled night game, at Washington on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 p.m. The Giants will make their longest trip of the season the following week when they visit the Chargers in San Diego on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4:25.
The Giants will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. They will play their final road game of the season at Detroit on Dec. 22 at 4:05 p.m. The Giants will end the regular season at home against Washington on Dec. 29 in a game currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
Some highlights from the Giants' 2013 schedule:
*The Giants will play five of their eight home games against 2012 playoff teams – Washington, Green Bay, Minnesota, Seattle and Denver.
*The Redskins are the only 2012 playoff team they will play on the road.
*The Giants will play four teams with new head coaches: Philadelphia (Chip Kelly), Chicago (Marc Trestman), Kansas City (Andy Reid) and San Diego (Mike McCoy).
*The Giants will open against Dallas for the second consecutive season. Last year, they lost to the Cowboys at home, 24-17, in their first game. The Giants last opened back-to-back seasons against the same opponent in 2008 and 2009, when they won home games against the Redskins.
*This is the third year in a row and the sixth time in seven years the Giants will begin the season against an NFC East opponent. They have lost their last two openers, to Washington and Dallas.
*The Giants will open their season in Dallas for the first time since 2007. They lost that game, but won the Super Bowl that season.
*The Giants are 49-34-5 on opening day, 49-34-5 in road openers and 32-22-5 in season-opening road games.
*The Giants are 7-11 in prime time against the Cowboys.
*When the Giants host the Vikings, it will be the team's second Monday night home game in the Coughlin era (not counting the 2005 game against New Orleans in Giants Stadium in which the Saints were the home team). They had been the visitors in their previous nine Monday night games (including that Saints game), before defeating St. Louis, 28-16, in MetLife Stadium on Sept. 19, 2011.
*The Giants and Eagles will conclude their season series before Halloween for the first time since 2000.
*The Giants will play home games in three consecutive weeks for the first time since 2006, when they defeated Tampa Bay and Houston and lost to Chicago. They played three successive home games in 2011, but had a bye between the second and third games.
*For the second season in a row, the Giants' home game vs. Green Bay and their game at Washington will be played in prime time.
*The Giants will end their season at home for the third consecutive year, the first time that's happened since it happened five years in a row from 2000-2004. They defeated division foes Dallas and Philadelphia in their last two season finales.
*The Giants last ended their season against the Redskins in 2010, when they won in Washington. Remarkably, the 2013 season will be the first that ends with a home game vs. the Redskins since 1948.
*The Giants are 18-22-1 on Sunday night (9-11 at home, 9-11-1 on the road), 22-33-1 on Monday (7-8 at home, 15-25-1 on the road) and 13-6-3 on Thursday.
*The Giants' preseason schedule has been finalized. They will open their four-game schedule at Pittsburgh on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Giants' will face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in their preseason home opener on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., a game that will be televised nationally by FOX.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Giants will host the Jets in their annual preseason game. Kickoff in MetLife Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Giants will face the New England Patriots in their preseason finale for the ninth consecutive year. The game will be played in Foxboro on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
*The kickoff times for the Giants' final seven regular season games – including the night games vs. Green Bay and at Washington - will be subject to the NFL's flexible schedule policy.
The NFL will utilize flexible scheduling in Weeks 11-17.
In the weeks flexible scheduling is in place, the NFL schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday night on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.
A flexible scheduling move will be announced at least 12 days before the game. For Week 17, the change may be announced six days before the game. Flexible scheduling was designed to ensure quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and give "surprise" teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.
The seven Giants games that could have their kickoff times changed are vs. Green Bay on Nov. 17 (currently listed as an 8:30 start), vs. Dallas on Nov. 24 (4:25 p.m.), at Washington on Dec. 1 (8:30 p.m.), at San Diego on Dec. 8 (4:25 p.m.), Vs. Seattle on Dec. 15 (1 p.m.), at Detroit on Dec. 22 (4:05 p.m.) and vs. Washington on Dec. 29 (1 p.m.).

The NFC East rivals split their two games in 2012, with each team winning on the road. In the first game of the NFL regular season on Wednesday night, Sept. 5, Dallas defeated the Giants in MetLife Stadium, 24-17. On Oct. 28, the Giants improved to 4-0 in Cowboys Stadium with a 29-24 triumph. The Giants swept the season series in 2011, when their victory on the final night of the regular season clinched the NFC East title. The Cowboys last swept the season series in 2007 (when the Giants later won the only playoff game the teams have played against each other). The Giants have swept the season series 12 times, while Dallas has 18 series sweeps. The Giants are 19-31-1 in Dallas, while the Cowboys are 2-1 in MetLife Stadium.

The Broncos will make their first visit to MetLife Stadium for the third regular-season game in which Eli and Peyton Manning will face each other as the starting quarterbacks – the only brothers to do so in NFL history. Denver won the most recent meeting, 26-6, on Thanksgiving night in 2009 in Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Giants won the last game the teams played in Giants Stadium when Eli Manning threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Amani Toomer with 5 seconds remaining for a 24-23 victory on Oct. 23, 2005. In the teams' only postseason meeting, the Giants defeated the Broncos, 39-20, in Super Bowl XXI. Peyton Manning's team won both games against Eli's Giants. On Sept. 10, 2006, Peyton's Indianapolis Colts won, 26-21, in Giants Stadium. The teams met again on Sept. 19, 2010 in Indianapolis, where the Colts stormed to a 38-14 triumph.

The Giants will play in Charlotte for the second season in a row. On Sept. 20, 2012, they routed the Panthers, 36-7, in a Thursday night game in Bank of America Stadium. The Giants have won two in a row against Carolina, including a 31-18 victory on Sept. 12, 2010 in the first regular season game in MetLife Stadium. Their most important victory in the series was a 34-28 overtime triumph in Giants Stadium on Dec. 21, 2008, when the Giants clinched home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. In that game, the Giants rushed for 301 yards, the fifth-highest total in franchise history. The Giants are 2-1 in Charlotte.

Kansas City's 2012 record: 2-14, AFC West fourth place
Series Record: Regular season: Giants lead, 10-2
The Giants will try to stretch their winning streak in the series to five games when they visit Arrowhead Stadium. The teams last met on Oct. 4, 2009, a 27-16 Giants victory in Kansas City. The Giants also defeated the Chiefs in 1998, 2001 and 2005. They last lost to the Chiefs on Sept. 10, 1995, a 20-17 overtime decision in Kansas City, where the Giants are 4-2. The Giants will see a familiar face on the sideline in Arrowhead Stadium in new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who held the same position with their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. Giants coach Tom Coughlin and Reid have stood on opposite sidelines in 19 regular season games, the highest total of any active head coaches. Reid leads the series, 10-9.

The longtime rivals split their two games in 2012, with each team winning at home. The Eagles prevailed on Sept. 30 in Lincoln Financial Field, 19-17. The Giants routed Philadelphia, 42-7, in the rematch in the season finale in MetLife Stadium on Dec. 30. The teams also split their series in 2011; this is the first time since 1983-84 the Giants and Eagles split their two games in consecutive seasons. Each team swept the season series 11 times in the last 28 years. The Giants won each game in 1985, 86, 87, 93, 94, 97-2000, 2005 and 2007. Philadelphia swept the series in 1988, 89, 91, 92, 95, 96, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010. The teams split their season series in 1990, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2012. The Giants are 5-5 in the regular season and 0-1 in postseason play in Lincoln Financial Field and 1-2 in MetLife Stadium vs. Philadelphia.

The Giants have won the last two games in the series: 17-3 on Oct. 3, 2010 in MetLife Stadium and 21-6 in Soldier Field on Dec. 2, 2007. The Giants are 4-3 in regular-season games in Solider Field since the Bears began playing their home games there in 1971.

The Giants and Vikings will meet for the first time in MetLife Stadium. The teams last faced each other on Dec. 13, 2010, when the Giants won, 21-3, in a game that was played on a Monday night in Detroit's Ford Field. The game was moved after the Metrodome roof collapsed during a snowstorm. That victory ended the Giants' four-game losing streak in the series. The Vikings won their last four regular-season games in Giants Stadium, in 1994, 1999, 2005 and 2007. But the Giants routed Minnesota there in the 2000 NFC Championship Game, 41-0.

The Raiders will make their first visit to MetLife Stadium to resume a series that has been marked by streaks. Oakland/Los Angeles won the first 3, the Giants won the next 2, the Raiders then won 4 in a row and the Giants won the two most recent meetings. The teams last faced each other in Giants Stadium on Oct. 11, 2009, when the Giants crushed the Raiders, 44-7. Eli Manning played only the first 5 series of the game and completed 8 of 10 passes for 173 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for a perfect passer rating of 158.3.

The Giants and Packers will meet for the fourth consecutive season and in MetLife Stadium for the third year in a row. Green Bay is the first opponent outside of the NFC East to visit the Giants in three straight seasons since Carolina in 2008-2010 (the first two of those games were in Giants Stadium). On Nov. 25, 2012, the Giants routed Green Bay, 38-10, in a Sunday night game, a victory that broke a four-game home losing streak to the Packers that dated to 1998. The previous season, the teams played regular-season and postseason games. On Dec. 4, 2011, the Packers improved to 12-0 with a 38-35 victory that was secured with a last-second 31-yard field goal by Mason Crosby. Six weeks later, the Giants routed the Packers, 37-20, in an NFC Divisional Playoff Game in Lambeau Field. In was the Giants' second postseason victory in a row in Green Bay, including their epic 23-20 overtime triumph in frigid Lambeau in the 2007 NFC Championship Game.

In 2012, the teams split their season series for the first time since 2007, with each team winning at home. The Giants won on Oct. 21 in MetLife Stadium, 27-23, when Eli Manning threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz with 1:13 remaining in the game. But they lost the rematch, 17-16, on Monday night, Dec. 3, in FedEx Field. In 2011, the Giants lost both games to Washington for the first time since 1999. The Giants are 2-1 vs. the Redskins in MetLife and 8-7-1 in FedEx Field. The Giants have swept the season series with Washington 30 times.

The Giants have lost the last two and three of the last four games of the series dating back to 1995. The teams last met on Nov. 8, 2009 in Giants Stadium, where Philip Rivers' 18-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson completed an 80-yard drive with just 21 seconds remaining and gave the Chargers a 21-20 victory. In their last meeting in San Diego, the Chargers defeated the Giants, 45-23, on Sept. 25, 2005. The infrequently-contested rivalry gained some intrigue when the Chargers drafted Eli Manning with the first overall selection in 2004 and soon dealt him to the Giants for a package that included Rivers. The Giants are 2-2 in San Diego.

Seattle will visit MetLife Stadium for the second time in its four-year history. On Oct. 9, 2011, the Seahawks defeated the Giants, 36-25. The Giants had won the previous two meetings by a combined score of 85-13 – 44-6 in Giants Stadium on Oct. 5, 2008 and 41-7 in Seattle on Nov. 7, 2010. The Seahawks are 2-6 against the Giants in New Jersey.

The Giants will attempt to stretch their winning streaks to three games in the series and five in Detroit when they visit the Lions. The teams last met on Oct. 17, 2010, when the Giants defeated the Giants in MetLife Stadium, 28-20. They last faced each other in Detroit on Nov. 18, 2007, a 16-10 Giants victory in Ford Field. The Giants also won in Detroit in 1988, 96 and 97. They last lost there in 1983. Although they've played the Lions there just once, the Giants are 2-0 in Ford Field. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings there, 21-3, on Dec. 13, 2010 in a game that was moved to Detroit after the Metrodome roof collapsed in a snowstorm.
