Question 8: Which second-year player will have a breakout year?

MICHAEL EISEN: I'm going to choose two, both on the defensive line – tackle Johnathan Hankins and end Damontre Moore.  Each plays a position where the Giants lost a starter to free agency (Linval Joseph, Justin Tuck), so Hankins and Moore will play more than they did as rookies. Each has a lot of talent and worked hard this offseason to prepare for a larger role. Combine that with the increased opportunity and you have two players who could be important and consistent contributors in their sophomore seasons.

JOHN SCHMEELK: In terms of numbers, it will be Damontre Moore, since everyone looks at the sacks. But in terms of consistent top quality play, I'm going to go with Johnathan Hankins, who should provide upper echelon play at defensive tackle down in and down out.

He would have held his own if he played more as a rookie, but the Giants had the good problem of having quality veterans like Linval Joseph and Cullen Jenkins taking snaps away from their second-round draft choice. Now that Joseph is gone, it's Hankins' time.
