Who will play the "Deon Grant" Safety/LB role in 2013 and why?**
MICHAEL EISEN: Jacquian Williams. He was expected to grow in that role before a knee injury cost him six games last season. He has the athleticism and versatility to handle those duties.
JOHN SCHMEELK: I think this role will be played by a corner back in either Aaron Ross or Terrell Thomas. Both are physical enough to play the run in the slot and get to the quarterback on blitzes. I expect fewer three safety packages this year and more tradition three cornerback packages. When they team does go three safeties, I think Ryan Mundy is the first guy up.
DAN SALOMONE: Let me just take this opportunity to say that Deon Gran was an underrated during the Giants' last Super Bowl run. He didn't make eye-popping plays (although he did have an interception in the Divisional Game in Green Bay), but his veteran presence helped hold that defense together on the field and in the locker room. But now to 2013, I think Ryan Mundy put himself in good position to take the third safety role heading into training camp, having brought over his knowledge from playing behind some of the best in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Will Hill can be a tackling machine, and Jacquian Williams has the speed to cover anywhere.
