He also has 36 special teams tackles…In postseason play, Butler has 30 tackles (21 solo), 2 passes defensed and 4 special teams tackles. - In 2007, Butler played in 13 regular season games with 12 starts and started all 4 postseason games at strong safety…Finished with 69 tackles (38 solo), 1 interception, 6 passes defensed, 1 QB hit and 1 fumble recovery…Was the team’s second-leading tackler in the 2007 postseason with 30 (21 solo)…Also had 2 pass defensed. - Missed game at Miami [London] (10/28), at Philadelphia (12/9) and vs. Washington (12/16) with a hamstring injury. - Recorded a team-high 9 tackles (8 solo) in Super Bowl XLII…Also had 9 tackles (7 solo) in NFC Divisional Playoff Game at Dallas (1/13). - Posted a regular season high total of 9 tackles (6 solo) at Dallas (9/9) and vs. Green Bay (9/16). - His only 2007 interceptions was a big one, as he picked off a Jon Kitna pass to Shaun McDonald in the end zone late in the 4th quarter at Detroit (11/18). - In 2006, Butler played in 14 regular season games with most of his action coming on special teams…Did see some action in dime packages on defense…Finished the season with 11 tackles ( 9 solo), 4 passes defensed and 12 special teams tackles. - In 2005, played in all 16 regular season games with 1 start, plus the NFC Wild Card Game…Finished tied for 2nd on the team (with Pro Bowler David Tyree) with 21 special teams tackles (19 solo), 1 behind Chase Blackburn…Recorded 18 tackles (14 solo), 2 interceptions, 5 passes defensed and 1 fumble recovery in play in dime packages - Recorded his 1st career interception when he picked off a Drew Bledsoe pass for Terry Glenn in the 3rd quarter vs. Dallas (12/4). - Recorded his 2nd interception of the season when he picked off a Trent Green pass for Tony Gonzalez in the 4th quarter vs. Kansas City (12/17).
COLLEGE:
- Started 25 of 48 games in which he played at Georgia Tech, including every game his final 2 seasons…Totaled 240 tackles (132 solo), 7 interceptions, 10 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles and 2 blocked field goals in his final 2 years at Georgia Tech. - Was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back as a senior in 2004, when he was named 1st-team All-ACC for the 2nd straight season. - ACC All-Academic team 2 straight years.
OFF-THE-FIELD ACTIVITY:
- Attended the “Taste of the New York Giants” fundraiser dinner at Giants Stadium. - Joined teammates to visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. prior to the Super Bowl champions’ trip to the White House. - Participated in the Athletes in Action youth football clinic at Giants Stadium. - Attended the United Way of NYC’s 2008 “Gridiron Gala” fundraiser dinner. - Signed autographs and greeted fans at Big Blue Travel’s “Giants Wrap-Up Breakfast.” - Attended the Giants annual “Jingle Jam” holiday party for 750 New Jersey foster children. - Joined numerous teammates at the Ronald McDonald House of NYC for a summer barbeque with the kids and their families. - Visited the I.S. 49 School in Staten Island, NY, where he led kids in an NFL fitness clinic. - Made a Giants’ “What Moves U” fitness appearance at Great Meadows Middle School (Great Meadows, N.J.), where he encouraged students to play actively every day. - Was honored with “James Butler Day” in his hometown of Climax, Ga. on March 1, 2008 after winning the Super Bowl. - A graduate of the Georgia Tech Building Construction program, Butler is interning with Skanska Corporation through the Giants’ Player Development Internship Program during the offseason construction of the Giants’ new stadium and team facility.

- Four-year letterman at Bainbridge High School in Climax, Ga., where he was the state champion in the triple jump as a sophomore.
