Giants hire assistant offensive line coach James Ferentz

JAMES-FERENTZ

Orlando, Fla. – Brian Daboll added what is expected to be the final piece to his 2024 coaching staff when he announced James Ferentz will be his new assistant offensive line coach.

Ferentz, 34, retired last month as an NFL player after an eight-year career with the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.

He will assist new offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, who was his line coach with the Patriots in 2020-21.

Ferentz finished college in 2013 and spent a year out of football before being signed by the Houston Texans in the 2014 offseason. He spent that season on the Texans' practice squad. Ferentz was waived by Houston on Sept. 5, 2015, and was awarded the following day to the Broncos

That year, he played in 14 games for a Denver team that won Super Bowl 50 in Peyton Manning's final season.

Ferentz played two years in Denver before he was released on May 10, 2017 and signed the following week by the Patriots, for whom he played six seasons.

In his eight seasons, Ferentz played in 61 regular-season games with 10 starts, all with New England, including six at center, three at left guard, and one at right guard. He started a career-high three games in 2022.

Ferentz also played in one postseason game for both the Broncos and Patriots.

At the University of Iowa, Ferentz played for his father, Kirk Ferentz, the Hawkeyes' head coach since 1998. He played in 39 games, including starts in each of his last 38 contests. Ferentz was named second-team All-Big Ten center as a senior.

Ferentz is one of nine new coaches on the Giants' 2024 staff. In addition to Bricillo, the newcomers include defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial, and tight ends coach Tim Kelly.
