The New York Giants hold seven picks this year, one in each round beginning with the 23rd overall selection. The team did not have a seventh-round selection last year after trading it to the Pittsburgh Steelers for punter Brad Wing.
This year, a total of 32 compensatory were awarded to 16 teams, none of which went to the Giants. Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.
The compensatory picks are positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost. Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.
After two years in Chicago, the 82nd NFL Draft will be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia. Round 1 will take place on Thursday, Rounds 2-3 will be held on Friday, and Rounds 4-7 will be on Saturday.
