Junior Giants Party it up with Giants Players
Hey – young Giants fans! How do YOU celebrate with your favorite football team? Well, if you were a specially selected member of the Junior Giants Fan Club, you were eligible to spend an afternoon with current and former Giants players in a fun, authentic football environment!
On Tuesday, September 18 the Giants hosted over 200 fan club members and their parents in an afternoon of fun and football at the Giants Stadium Practice bubble. They practiced their throwing and kicking skills, as well as running and jumping on the Giants obstacle course.
Former Giants fullback Charles Way hosted the young fans and got them started with some warm-ups, showing the kids what he used to do when he was a player. Jumping jacks, pushups and stretches got the kids ready for an afternoon of activity. “Let’s get ready to play some football and have some fun!” Charles said, as he encouraged the kids to keep active. Charles also introduced Grey Ruegamer , a linebacker with the Giants, as well as Giants cornerback Corey Webster , who did the exercises alongside their young fans. Charles got everyone – including the parents - excited about the event!
All of the Junior Giants had the opportunity to go onto the stadium field where their favorite team plays during the season. According to some of the young fans, the stadium field was “awesome because we could throw footballs and just like Eli! We got to run around on the field and kick field goals!” Many parents spent extra time on the field to take lots of pictures with their sons and daughters.
Inside the bubble, the kids had fun with the obstacle course and the throwing and kicking stations with help from the Giants stars. There was even a Nintendo Wii gaming station playing Madden ‘08 as well. Those fan club members who needed a break from all the running around could get their face painted or work on their artistic skills at the coloring station. Kids could also go to the photo station where they got their picture taken wearing a #1 Draft Pick jersey. Best part about it, the kids took the pictures home with them!
The festivities ended with a special autograph session, where all of the Junior Giants receive a Giants pennant signed by all three players. The kids had a great time – and so did the parents. One parent said “The sense of belonging that these kids feel, the camaraderie with each other, and the awe in meeting real Giants/heroes is a wonderful addition to their lives.” And then he added, “It was a blast for adults too!”
